CAPTAIN Cholesterol popped into a Wootton Bassett primary school to give a lesson on healthy living.

The fictional hero and actors from Quantum Theatre were at Longleaze School in Byron Avenue on Friday to talk to 200 children aged between four and 11.

The actors performed Captain Cholesterol and The Grannies From Mars - a production for youngsters based on health and nutrition.

At the Much Merrydown fete Granny Smith celebrates first prize in the apple growing competition.

But triumph soon turns to disaster when one of her rivals collapses with a bad case of the collywobbles.

The youngsters watched as Doctor Dickie Gripes and the FBI - Fruit Bureau of Investigation - try to unravel the mystery.

The brains of Fox Mouldy and Dana Scullery are pitted against alien fruit and an evil plan to take over the world.

"The play really appealed to all the age groups," said deputy head Pam Evans.

"The children really enjoyed it, they were really enthralled by the experience but were learning the whole time."

The event was a huge success and the children now hope to make Captain Cholesterol a regular part of their healthy living project.

"We'd really like to invite the Quantum Theatre again," said Pam.

"The productions are a brilliant way to get children interested and it wasn't just about telling them to eat their five fruit and vegetables a day.

"The children learnt all about how to keep their hearts healthy and how what exercise we do and what we eat can affect our bodies - even down to brushing our teeth.

"One little boy asked me if Quantum can come back every year so we know it was a success."
