STUDENTS and staff from Kingsdown School will walk under the stars in memory of a young pupil's mother.

Teachers and Year 11 students will be taking part in Prospect Hospice's Starlight Memories walk on Saturday.

The school's leg of the walk will be in memory of 15-year-old Jemma Sadler's mother who died from cancer in May last year.

Jemma, whose mother Rose Marie was cared for by Prospect staff, said she heard about the fundraising walk through her school.

And she said her father David and her sister Sarah, 13, will be rooting for her when she takes part.

"The school sent me information about the walk and I thought it would be nice to do it in memory of my mum," she said.

"I'm really looking forward to it and I'm hoping to raise as much money as possible for Prospect - they looked after mum very well.

"My family are very supportive and happy that I'm doing it. My dad is very proud of me."

The Starlight Memories walk is being held so that people can celebrate the lives of loved ones through the 10km walk.

I'm hoping to raise as much money as possible for Prospect - they looked after my mum really well

It will start from points in Swindon and Marlborough and end in a late night arrival at Barbury Castle.

Bronnie Dullroy, a special needs co-ordinator at Kingsdown who helped Jemma get the school group together, said: "When Jemma told me about it I thought it was a fantastic opportunity to raise money for a good cause and help her remember her mum.

"We will all be wearing yellow T-shirts as that was Jemma's mum's favourite colour "And we have more than two dozen people taking part. I hope we can get more involved.

"At the end we will be releasing a balloon just to remember Jemma's mum.

"I think events like this raise awareness and help people remember their loved ones in a really special way.

"We've called ourselves the Kingsdown Super Jets and hope we can raise as much as possible."
