Flames Of Desire

Every home has its own personal scent - and it can speak volumes about you. We've followed our noses to find the smells to impress and match the personalities they'd suit. Use some of these beautiful aromas to woo, to relax and to celebrate...

INTROVERT They're attracted to clean, soft scents that are subtle and not too overpowering. Fragrances featuring white flowers such as jasmine, tuberose and neroli would be best for them. Or try a scent reminiscent of sea breezes, featuring lily of the valley, blended with white musk.

OUR CHOICE: A Poussiere de Rose candle from Les Parfums de Rosine, £42.

ROMANTIC Florals are a favourite for this type. Perhaps a blend of mimosa, yellow rose and some vanilla, or a single fragrance such as jasmine or lily of the valley. They prefer a light, sweet fragrance and may also enjoy a soft oriental scent, using vanilla, tonka bean and benzoin.

OUR CHOICE: A Rose d'Ete candle, £42, Les Parfums de Rosine or Velvet rosebud luxury candle, £20 from Virgin Vie At Home.

MEN A vanilla fragrance is a favourite, because this is a re-assuring, relaxing fragrance as it often conjures childhood memories. Their other preference is for something aromatic, woody and spicy, using cedarwood and patchouli.

OUR CHOICE: Jacques Garcia, Myrrh candle, £40.

EXTROVERT This type enjoys an oriental, spicy and quite defined scent. They look for something that makes a statement about them and their home - sandalwood, patchouli and cinnamon. An alternative would be a strong floral bouquet - a tuberose or a blend of scents with ylang ylang, patchouli, amber and jasmine.

OUR CHOICE: Costes black candle, £40.
