HUNDREDS of people braved the cold conditions and lined the streets of Trowbridge last night as they welcomed the town's annual Trowbridge Carnival.

The procession began at 7pm on Canal Road and made its way along The Down, Timbrell Street, Union Street, Church Street, Market Street, Castle Street, Market Street, Longfield Road and Bythesea Road.

Maryrose Mantle, chairman of the Trowbridge Carnival committee, said: “The set-up has gone really well.

“We have 48 entries in the carnival, not all of which are floats but a lot who are walking in pairs or groups.

“We have got so many local entries though which is great and hopefully it stays dry.”

A number of floats took part in the event, including the popular Hot Rock Carnival Club and a 100ft float, The Temple of Light.

More than 60 volunteers were along the route collecting donations and ensuring everything went according to plan.

Shelley Doherty walked the carnival with daughter, Olivia, and son, Archie, along with their dog, Bruno, all of whom are dressed in Flintstone-esque costumes.

She said: “I walked in the carnival about ten years ago but this will be the first time my son has done it.

“Normally we watch but we thought we would take part and we’re really looking forward to it.”

Sammi Winner, from Odeon Cinema, said: “This is the third year that we have done it and each year we go as film characters.

“It’s just insane how good the carnival is, there’s always a good turnout and it’s one of those town things where everybody gets involved.”
