A MUSIC video project created by a Wiltshire College student has received more than 250,000 views on YouTube in three months.

TV and film student Kirsty Pickett, 17, from Trowbridge, featured, filmed and directed the YouTube video at the start of the academic term for her Level 3 qualification.

“I was absolutely ecstatic when it got 1,000 hits as although you hope you will get lots of views, you don’t expect to,” said Kirsty.

“All my friends and family watched it and really liked it, but it seems lots of other people are too, which is great.

“The video now has more than 200,000 views, which is totally mindblowing.”

Kirsty is a keen video blogger and after coming across singer Ruth B on social media, she decided to create a mimed video for the song Lost Boy.

“I hadn’t planned on starring in it; a friend of mine was going to sing it for me, but was unable to in the end so I decided to mime the song,” said Kirsty.

“It took me about a week to film and then a few days solid editing and I was so pleased with the end result.

“I love editing and also enjoy some special effects as well as playing around with the colours.

“It is the first music video I have ever made and definitely my favourite college project. It was a lot of fun and I loved being able to be creative.

“Some have been really complimentary about the quality of it and I have replied to everyone who has commented. I feel really quite proud.”

Simon Weintroub, TV and film lecturer at the college, said: “The team are as excited as Kirsty is. Obviously, all our students dream of getting over 100,000 views so to see someone on the course do it proves it can be done and is inspiring for everyone else.

“The video’s success I believe, is down to a simple idea being brilliantly executed. That acting as the visual for such as likeable song makes for a stunning video.”
