THE family of a man who died after a crash on the A303 between Zeals and Mere yesterday have paid tribute to him.

David Worthington, 59, of Bourton, in Dorset, died following the collision involving two cars and a lorry at 5.45am.

In a statement his family said: "David was full of enthusiasm for life. He was a Christian man involved in the church and an active member of the village community.

"He was a keen all-round sportsman, his particular passion was for rugby and he played for North Dorset RFC for over 30 years.

"By far his greatest passion was his family. He had one great love, his wife Caroline and was so proud of his three daughters Ellie, Mary and Olivia. He was a loving Grandpa to three grandchildren, Bella, Millie and Rory.

"His proudest moments were giving away his daughter Ellie at her wedding in 2012 and he was looking forward to doing the same for his daughter Mary in Spring 2018. He shared special Saturday's playing tennis and attending rugby functions with his youngest daughter Olivia, who had recently moved back to the area having finished university.

"With three daughters he was not a wealthy man, but was rich in love and kindness. He would do anything for anyone and we are seeking peace knowing he died helping someone else - so like Dad.

"He was a happy, uplifting man with strong Christian faith. A special place in Heaven awaits.

"We are grateful to have known him, we shall miss him every day. Our darling Daddy. We love you so much.

"A celebration of his life will be held at Bourton Church, date to be confirmed.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their overwhelming support at this awful time. We appreciate it so much and so would he."

Wiltshire Police have asked anyone with information about the crash to contact PC Tony Hall at the collision investigation unit on 101.
