JULIA'S House hospice struck gold when some coins and foreign notes were being sorted through.
The charity, which is building its first Wiltshire hospice in Devizes at the moment, regularly receives out of circulation coins and notes which can be exchanged for cash.
But recently a gold sovereign valued at £250 was found nestling among coins in an old Quality Street tin.
“It was in a little pouch buried in the coins,” said Paula Smith, who processes coin donations for the charity.
“We are lucky enough to have a retired medal and coin dealer who volunteers for us and makes sure any out-of-circulation coins are seamlessly converted to funds.”
This year, donations of coins and foreign currency have amounted to £800 for Julia’s House.
