POLICE have identified the body discovered lying near the A303 at Chilmark as Miroslaw Wisniewski, 54.

The man, known as Mirek, was originally from Lublin, Poland, but had recently been living in the Reading area.

His body was discovered on September 21 in an field off Cow Drove just outside Chilmark by a member of the public.

Yesterday two men aged 38 and 45 were arrested on suspicion of preventing a lawful burying and taken to Gablecross Police Station in Swindon where they were questioned by police.

The men, both from the Thames Valley Area, have since been released under investigation, while enquiries continue.

A Wiltshire Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that following DNA tests, the body of a man found lying in a field by the A303 near to the villages of Teffont and Chilmark has been identified as Miroslaw Wisniewski (known as Mirek), aged 54, originally from Lublin, Poland, but recently living in the Reading area.

"We had been investigating the incident since a member of the public contacted us on Thursday 21 September 2017 after the body was found in a field a short distance from the A303.

"Extensive enquiries were carried out and the man has now been identified and his next of kin informed.

"At this time, the cause of death is still to be determined pending further toxicology tests.”
