THE Adver’s 160 Appeal in aid of Prospect Hospice has received a £4,000 boost from a band of committed fundraisers and model employees.

Staff at independent manufacturer Wilson Tool, in South Marston, donated the money to the charity yesterday, vowing to collect more over the next year as part of a Swindon-wide campaign to raise £160,000 for Prospect by the end of December.

The firm, which has donated £16,000 to the hospice over the past ten years, asked staff for contributions, held a summer fair, a Christmas raffle and used all the spare change spent on coffees and teas to reach the amount.

The bravest of them even took part in sponsored cycle rides for Prospect.

“I think Prospect touches a lot of people in Swindon and in the company,” said Trevor Davies, the head of human resources at Wilson Tool. “Over the year we have raised £16,000 for Prospect but £4,000 is our highest total.

“People have been very generous, especially with raffles. We have also sent people out to be marshals for the Starlight Walk and charged for teas and coffees and donated the money to Prospect.

Trevor pledged to raise the bar this year as part of the 160 Appeal.

“We want to continue what we are doing for Prospect and raise more than £4,000 this year,” he said. Prospect Hospice must secure £5.8m each year to continue caring for the people of Swindon and North Wiltshire.

Accepting the cheque, Sheryl Crouch, the head of fundraising at Prospect Hospice, said: “It is an example of how a lot of people doing a little makes a difference.”
