TWO primary schools have joined forces to raise as much money as they can for the Adver’s 160 Appeal in aid of Prospect Hospice.

Pupils from Rodbourne Cheney Primary School and Moredon Primary School aim to raise at least £300 between them by the end of the academic year through a series of fundraisers.

To mark its 160th birthday the Swindon Advertiser launched the 160 Appeal in February to raise £160,000 for Prospect Hospice. Rodbourne Cheney’s children held a special assembly yesterday to announce the activities they have lined up.

Both schools will be donating the proceeds of their tuck shops to the campaign, as well as running cake sales, non-uniform days and sports tournaments.

Ida Coombs, Rodbourne Cheney’s community tutor, said: “We are really pleased to be launching our activities and we know parents from both schools are very supportive and will get behind the fundraising.

“Prospect Hospice is such a great cause and it is a charity which everyone can embrace and support as we all know someone who has benefited from them.

“We also know how enthusiastic our pupils are and they are excited to be fundraising. So we are aiming to raise at least £300 and we would be delighted to raise more.”

Tomorrow, Rodbourne Cheney’s tuck shop will be selling cookies and popcorn while their children are in for a sweet treat on Friday when they will be able to donate funds to create a delicious dessert at an ice cream factory running at the school.

Ida said: “The Year 6 children run the tuck shop and they take great ownership in it. We are really pleased to see all our children putting good ideas forward to raise funds for the campaign.”

Year 6 pupil Dominic McGleish, 11, Rodbourne Cheney’s head boy, said: “I feel really pleased to be doing this for Prospect as they do so much to help people who are ill. We think the four activities that we have planned will help raise lots of money for the charity.”

Fellow Year 6 student, Bethany Selwood, 11, the school’s deputy head girl, said: “We are doing everything we can and it makes us very happy to know we are helping out Prospect Hospice.”

Classrooms at both schools will also have donation boxes with pupils welcome to give any loose change towards the appeal.
