TWO exciting' targets have suddenly materialised on Paul Sturrock's transfer radar and the manager aims to move swiftly if his move for Luke Rodgers ends in failure.

The Town boss has demanded an answer from the Crewe Alexandra striker by end of play today and he is also insisting on a resolution to the saga of Andy Monkhouse (pictured).

As it stands, the manager is in limbo and isn't prepared to let that situation continue.

And should Rodgers say no, as hinted by his agent, then Sturrock insists plan B' would not be a lesser option, far from it.

He said: "A couple of players I'm quite excited about have come into line now.

"I've fished with some agents and a couple of clubs on the availability of certain players and I haven't got knock backs on them.

"There's two or three others that have been recommended that I quite like, as well as the one I'm pushing for."

As it stands though, Rodgers remains the current target. However, the waiting game ends today, whatever the outcome.

Sturrock said: "We have been in negotiations with the football club, agreed terms, been in discussions with the agent of the player and that's exactly where it is at this minute.

"Player and agent are mulling over what's best for the player.

"He played in the Championship last year and the league above us this year and he's maybe having thoughts about dropping into this league.

"It's left in limbo. But I have made a commitment that Wednesday will be the (decision) deadline as I've got to go and look elsewhere if things don't transpire the way I want."

The same deadline applies as far as Andy Monkhouse's move to Hartlepool United.

Sturrock said: "It's vitally important that I know exactly what's happening with these two transfers sooner rather than later.

"It has to be decided then. In my mind I want to know exactly what I have to look for.

"Creating space for people to come in is as important as the other way.

"We have to make sure we really know what the story is as far as moving on to our next victims."

And should the Rodgers deal fall through, it certainly won't be the end of the world for Sturrock on the transfer front.

He said: "The standard of player I'd be bringing in to the football club would be on a par and one (target), don't take this the wrong way, would be slightly better."
