Peatmoor Turn Green Peatmoor Turn Green

On Friday 13th Peatmoor School walked around the Peatmoor lagoon and Peatmoor Copse picking up all the litter in their sight. All of Year six and Eco club set of with their litter pickers and a black dustbin bag on a mission to leave the Lagoon and Copse litter free.

We split up into two groups, one group named Litter Lovers and the other named Peatmoor Posse. Two police men and two police ladies came along with us. Also, four men from the Recycling Education Team came along to tell us what we could recycle and what we could not. Later on in the day they did an assembly with the school. Not only were we picking up all of the litter, we were recycling all we could. This is what we managed to recycle: Many cans, Plastic bottles, glass bottles, deodorant cans, and cardboard.

This is some of the very weird stuff we collected, but unfortunately couldn’t recycle: A car hubcap, part of a bike, a tire etc. After we had done the litter pick the police ladies came in and talked to us about what they do. They said the crime that is most popular around Swindon is vandalism, like Graffiti to buildings that don’t belong to them and damaging bus stops etc.

After that, the Recycling Education Team tested us on our knowledge of things that can be recycled. They brought in with them an everyday wheelie bin full of rubbish that could be recycled. In the wheelie bin was: Compost, cans, plastic bottles, tin foil etc. I enjoyed the day tremendously and had a good time. By Sam O
