COUNCILLOR Bluh's response of 'nonsense' to claims that Old Town has been neglected shows an arrogance and insensitivity which appears to come all too frequently with political power.
Old Town has been neglected by successive administrations for years - but consider those areas which the present cabinet could have tackled: An early realization that the Old Town Library saga was escalating and sending a message of neglect to the electorate.
The levelling of the car parking 'playing field' where there are charges in Old Town and no charges in similar trading areas such as Gorse Hill and Wroughton.
The vacillation in finalizing the planning permissions for the development of the Square and The Locarno building.
The lack of initiative to find a compromise solution at Coate which would safeguard the sanctity Coate Water and ensure the establishment of a university so much needed in Swindon.
No-one doubts that the recession has played a major part in Old Town's decline but it is simply not good enough for Coun Bluh say he thinks the problems are matters which the local community could sort out - we need leadership from the council!
