Joining The Birdsong Early In The Morning

THERE'S nothing like a bracing early morning walk to sharpen the mind and energise the body.
That's why Active Swindon is organising its Dawn Chorus health walk for Monday, May 5.
Early risers will meet at the entrance of The Lawns off High Street in Swindon's Old Town at 4.45am, then step out to see in a brand new day.
Active Swindon spokeswoman Nan Pratt said: "The Dawn Chorus Health Walk will be an incredibly uplifting event.
"Physical activity is always beneficial for people's health, but we hope this early morning stroll will help create a heightened sense of well-being.
"Those who take part will be able to experience mass birdsong at Lawns in a leafy, open and peaceful environment, so we're hoping people will be up with the lark and come and join in."
A series of Dawn Chorus Health Walks are currently being planned throughout England as part of the Natural England Walking for Health Initiative.
Active Swindon's Dawn Chorus Health Walk is due to take place just before the opening of Swindon's Festival of Literature - an exciting event beginning at 5.30am at The Lawns that morning.
Minstrels, musicians, and poets will all be performing, and walkers will be able to take a well-earned breakfast from the refreshments available.
Active Swindon is a lottery-funded project that aims to increase physical activity participation rates of people in Swindon, Shrivenham and parts of North Wiltshire by one per cent per annum.
The eventual aim is for half of the population to be physically active by 2020 at a level that will have health benefits.
The project is a partnership between Swindon Primary Care Trust, Swindon Borough Council and the Great Western Community Forest.
Other activities run by the Active Swindon Health Walks programme include five weekly walks around Penhill, Shaw, Broad Green, Eldene and Middleaze.
