ACTIVE Swindon is piloting Multi Sport Club - 10 weeks of sports sessions for adults with learning disabilities.

Thanks to a partnership with Swindon Primary Care Trust and the council, Active Swindon has been able to set up the club, which gives people aged 16-plus with learning disabilities the opportunity to experience good quality sport and physical activity in a safe and inclusive environment.

The club opened on Thursday and will run every Thursday from 7.30-9pm at the Dorcan Recreation Complex.

Each week, the club showcases a different activity for members to take part in, including racket skills, dancing, football, cricket, basketball and bocce - a precision bowling-style game.

Active Swindon spokesman Ben Humphrey said: "The overriding aim of the project is to break down the barriers that prevent people with a disability from participating in sport, exercise and physical activity.

"The club will offer members fun, healthy and sociable experiences with the opportunity to develop and progress their skills in a range of physical activities and sports."

Participants are charged £1.50 per session. Everybody's first session is free.

For more information about the Multi Sport Club, or to request a registration form, call Ben Humphrey on: 01793 617782 or 07815 776593 or email bhumphrey@swindon.gov.uk.
