Leading From The Front In 13- Mile Event
 |
| Gavin Jones and Dave King |
SWINDON Borough Council's Gavin Jones will be leading by example over the next few months as he prepares for the Swindon Half Marathon.
He decided to take part after being inspired by the range of people taking part in last year's race.
"I always thought that to run in the half marathon you had to be some super sporting hero.
"I saw the huge range of people running at last year's event and that was when I decided to take part. I thought, if all these people can do it, then I should too.
"I started training on January 1, and lost a stone. It was the best post Christmas diet I'd been on.
"Training for this has brought a positive change to my mental well being. I've started running more often now, it really helps clear my head and it's something I hope to continue even after the event. Initially the length of the course intimidated me. I've only ever done about four miles so the 13 miles is going to be hard work."
The event organisers are reminding people how to register for the big race, by visiting www. swindonhalf marathon.co.uk or by calling 01793 511033.
Alternatively, entry and registration details can be obtained by emailing swindonhalfmarathon@swindon. gov. uk.
