Mum's Buggy Walk To Fitness
Caz Caple
Caz Caple

BEING a new mum can be a lonely job, but getting out and about with other women in the same situation can lift the spirits - that's the message Caz Caple, pictured, wants to get across.

She was so determined not to be trapped at home with her first son that she has trained as a health walker with Active Swindon and launches her first walk on Thursday.

"Before having my baby, I loved exercising and walking, running and the like," said 31-year-old mum-of-one Caz, from Shaw.

"Then after I was walking a lot on my own and going to the park, but I felt I wanted to be with other people.

"For a lot of mums it can be an isolating time at first.

"As time's gone on I've met mums at different groups we go to, and suggested setting up a walking group."

The new mums and buggies health walk is part of Active Swindon's health walks programme and is especially for mums with babies or young toddlers.

Caz, who is a trained health walks leader, says it allows mums to get out for some physical activity without having to worry about childcare and will be a great opportunity for making new friends.

Caz said: "I've been through my training and now I just need to get mums coming along, out of the house and into the fresh air.

"Lydiard Park is a really lovely park.

"I'm so excited about these walks. I think it's very important for mums to get out of the house and go walking as it benefits them and the baby.

"Being a mum to a one-year-old I know how isolated I felt in the early months and I longed for a group to walk with as I felt very lonely walking on my own.

"I love walking with my baby as he loves the fresh air and enjoys watching the birds and all the lovely things that Lydiard Park has to offer."

Caz's first walk takes place on Thursday, meeting at 2.15pm at the Saltway Centre in Middleleaze, where the group will head back after the 45-minute route to have tea, coffee and a chat.

All abilities are welcome with everyone free to go at their own pace.
