SWINDON & DISTRICT LEAGUE: Williams steals the show for Globe

THE GOAL of the day in the first round of the Advertiser Cup came from Globe’s James Williams as his side beat Swindon Spitfires 7-2 to progress.

A 25-pass team move eventually found its way to Dom Mazzotta, who backheeled the ball into Williams’ path before the forward blasted home from 25 yards. Ash Piotrowski netted a hat-trick in the big win, while Mazzotta, Nigel Baker and Lewis Hill also found the net.

Premier Division Spectrum were taken to extra time by Division One Tap & Barrell after an end to end game, with Spectrum running out 4-2 winner thanks to an own goal and strikes from Andy Huggins, Genobi Ukoha and Mark Cowen.

Queensfield United went through with a fine 6-0 win over a spirited Swiss Chalet Rangers thanks to a brace from Adam Jack and goals from Roger Mundy, Dan Hiscock and Kevin Spencer.

Auto Engine Tune struggled to beat Division One side Sportz Central with the odd goal in seven, and Bassett Bulldogs continued their good recent form with a win over high flying Ferndale with two goals each from Jason Hudson, Colin Cochrane and strikes from Wayne Matthews and Mark Davis.

Chiseldon did themselves proud against Premier Division side Fratellos before losing 4-2, and Fox & Hounds beat DJC Marlborough 5-1.

Lower Stratton won 5-2 against Larry’s Plaice despite the away side battling all the way to the end, with the Stratton goals coming from a William Fleeting brace and strikes from James Saunders, Steve White and Adam Hitchman.
