NORTH BERKS: Coleshill lose Shield thriller

COLESHILL lost a Charity Shield first-round thriller against 10-man Wootton and Dry Sandford 4-3.

Dan Bradbury gave Coleshill the lead after 10 minutes when Wootton keeper Chris Dales hit a clearance straight to him.

Soon after Luke Ingram found himself in space and slotted home a neat equaliser.

Wootton had more of the play in the first half, but needed a Ryan Dodds clearance off the line to keep them level at the break.

Four minutes into the second period Richard Evans put Coleshill back in front after superb build-up on the right wing by Luke Regan.

Things went from bad to worse for Wootton when captain Jonny Weir was shown a second yellow card for his reaction to being fouled.

Coleshill should have increased their lead when Shane Blake went clear, but he put his shot wide.

Luke Ingram then equalised for Wootton with a solo effort before Sam Nicholls headed them into the lead.

Ingram then completed his hat-trick from Damien Dodds’ free-kick to make it 4-2, although there was a suspicion that he controlled the ball with his arm.

James Hopgood pulled one back direct from a corner and there was still time for Richard Evans to miss an open goal, which would have sent the tie into extra time.

Elsewhere in the competition, Faringdon crashed out in their all-Division One clash with Kintbury, losing 6-3. Robert Owen (2) and Robbie Harrington netted Faringdon’s consolations while Kye Franklin (3), Charlie Allsop (2) and Shaun Thorp scored for Kintbury.

Garth Franklin bagged a consolation for Lambourn Reserves as they fell 4-1 to Abingdon United Reserves, James Clarke, Chris Hooper, Adam Oram and Dan Cox scoring for the victors.

Coleshill lost 2-1 at home to Drayton Reserves with James Head converting for the former side.

A George Lester double secured Drayton the win.

In the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup, Drayton won 4-1 at home to lower-division Faringdon Reserves.

Kevin Kogel (2), Gareth Small and Richard Chilvers scored for Drayton and Sam Thompson replied for Faringdon.
