SWIMMING: Miley and Carlin called up to Britain squad
6:00am Wednesday 31st October 2012 in Sport By Ned Payne
HANNAH Miley and Jazz Carlin have been included in the 19-strong British squad for the World Short Course Swimming Championships in Istanbul in December.
Swindon-born world silver medallist Miley, 23, competed in three Olympic finals this summer while former Wootton Bassett School pupil Carlin will hope to make a fresh start after missing out on qualification for London 2012.
Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson is the headline act in a squad that also includes four-time World Short Course medallist Francesca Halsall.
The event, being held from December 12-16, will also see London 2012 Olympic finalists Robbie Renwick, Jemma Lowe and Lizzie Simmonds compete.
Bath ITC’s David McNulty, who will be the head coach for the competition, said: “Any time our swimmers are up against the best in the world it’s an important event.
“Not everyone will be tapered and some swimmers will be in the hard stage of their training cycle so they will have to swim tough, but I know our swimmers will give their best on the day.
“We will go there as a strong team and give everything we can to the meet.
“It will be an exciting start to the new quadrennial cycle for the team.”
