SUPERMARINE boss Dave Webb will take nothing for granted when they host basement boys Yate this evening - insisting they occupy a false position at the foot of the table.

The Gloucestershire side have only won once in Division One South and West after a difficult start to the season, but have enjoyed a sparkling run in the FA Cup culminating in a defeat at local rivals Cheltenham on Saturday.

Webb is convinced tonight’s opponents will move up the table soon, but wants his players to retain their focus to make sure their revival doesn’t begin at the Webbs Wood Stadium tonight.
“If we look at the time that we played in the FA Trophy they are a very good side, with good players,” he said.

“If you beat Oxford City and Newport and then run Cheltenham close in the FA Cup then you have to be a good team, and they are certainly in a false position in the league.

“They are in the wrong position but that can happen in this league, because anyone can beat anyone else and you can just get on a bad run.

“The same is true for us because we have beaten the top sides but struggled against some of the sides lower down the table, so we will have to be on their toes.

“By all accounts they conducted themselves superbly against Cheltenham at the weekend, and they will be on a high going into this game even though the lost.

“They will be looking to move up the table as soon as possible, but hopefully that will not start against us.”

A staggering five red cards were issued when the two sides met earlier in the season, but Webb isn’t expecting the same again tonight.

“It was a very strange evening, and I don’t think I have ever been involved in a game which has ended with nine on one side and eight on the other,” he said.

“It wasn’t really a bad tempered game at all, and there were some odd decisions from the referee that night.

“A lot of the decisions were made in haste, where if he took a little bit more time common sense could have taken over.

“All that led to a lot of suspensions and big fines, and clubs like ours can’t really be dealing with things like that to be honest.”

Webb is pleased with the way his side have progressed since the two sides met earlier in the season, but insisted there is still plenty more to do.

“We have tightened up a lot, because defensively we were conceding quite a few goals,” he said.

“We are stronger now, and to be fair we are strong going forward too and we have always looked like scoring goals.

“The players are enjoying what we are doing and that is important, but we need to keep it all going and carry on improving.”

Webb will be without the suspended Dave Bampton this evening after he picked up his fifth booking of the season at Bridgwater, while Rob Dean misses out with an ankle injury.

On-loan Swindon Town defender Chris Smith is also unavailable, but will return to the side on Saturday.
