NEIL Smith and his daughter Lucy have qualified for area finals in the National Indoor Championships.

Both have reached the Area 10 final in the men’s and women’s champion of champions competitions.

Neil booked his spot in the Area 10 final with a comprehensive 21-2 victory over David Morley (Fairford), and followed that up with 21-15 semi-final win over Carterton’s Stuart Richens.

Neil Smith will meet Mark Atkins in the area final next Thursday, November 15, on Atkins’ own green at Malvern Hills.

Lucy Smith, who last weekend came-off the reserves bench and took part in the England Ladies U25 trial at Rugby Thornfield, has had to play two matches as well like her father to reach the Women’s Area 10 final.

Only in her first year in this champion of champions national event, teenager Smith beat Carterton’s Rachel McIntyre 21-11 and Cotswold’s Margaret Powell 21-15 in the semi-final away in Stroud.

She has to travel again as she will play Gloucester’s Gill Fry on her own green next Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, 11 Westlecot players have been selected to play in the Wiltshire men’s side to face Somerset today in the first round of the Liberty Trophy at North Wilts (Chippenham).

They are Paul Kistle, John Thomas, Kyle Anderson, Tom Walkley, Kevin Embling, Tom Pittuck, Dave Snell, Ian Jefferies, James Nobbs, Chris Cheesley and Neil Smith.

While tomorrow (Sunday), Westlecot men will be looking for a third consecutive win in the Wessex League when they face Oxford City and County in an east region top of the table clash.
