JOHN Bostock was pleased to see midfield partner Simon Ferry find the net in the 2-0 victory over Walsall, but is now even more determined to end his own personal goal drought.

The midfielder has not registered since November 2010 when he scored in Hull’s 2-2 draw at Leeds, on a day when he was also shown the only red card of his professional career.

Now back in his favoured central midfield role, the Tottenham youngster is keen to show manager Paolo Di Canio he warrants a regular place in the side, and feels scoring goals is the perfect way to do that.

“It was fantastic to reward the fans and ourselves with the three points, and now we are near the top of the table so we have to keep going,” he said.

“Simon has played a couple of games with the armband on and that brought out even more leadership from him, and that is what you want, and he got on the scoresheet too.

“It is good when your partner does well, and maybe in the next few weeks I can get on the scoresheet as well.

“I have not really played consistently in any team really, and I am here now playing centre midfield and hopefully I can get a run of games.

“Goal scoring is part of my game, and I am not 100 per cent match fit at the moment, but once I am I want to bomb forward a lot more and get goals.

“I have played there (central midfield) since I was a youngster and I am used to it, but I have been playing in other positions and it has taken me a while to adapt and go back into that mode.

“The most important thing is the team, but for me and my personal development if I do not try my best to keep my position then I will not do myself justice.

“If I don’t play I can’t improve, so I need to show the manager I deserve a place.”

Bostock returned to the Town side after recovering from the groin injury he suffered against Stevenage, and was pleased to be able to give the travelling fans something to cheer about.

“I did my rehab at Tottenham and then came back and finished it off here, and all of the staff have been fantastic. I thought I wouldn’t be back until next week, but I came in and I was over the moon to play,” he said.

“The fans have been fantastic ever since I signed here last year on loan, and they have seen me come in and out of the team, and I have had to be patient.

“When we play and the fans travel it gives us an extra boost, and we are always pleased to win for them.”
