SUPERMARINE jumped into the Division One South & West play-off places with a convincing 4-0 victory over visiting Winchester.

The South Marston side clocked up their fifth league win in a row as four different goalscorers did the business at the Webb’s Wood Stadium on Saturday.

Ash Edenborough got the ball rolling with 12 minutes played when he headed in Danny Hilder’s cross from the left.

Just after the half hour mark, Edenborough spun his man and played in behind the defence for striker partner Josh Parsons, who lobbed home his sixth goal in as many games.

Some 13 minutes into the second half, Harry Etheridge drilled into the bottom corner from the edge of the box and there was still time for the excellent Hilder to get his name on the scoresheet.

By now switched to the right flank, the former Highworth man cut inside and fired into the top corner to complete a memorable display.

Afterwards, Marine boss Dave Webb admitted it was a great time to be part of the Supermarine setup following this and other recent results.

“It’s great at the moment, the team’s playing well, we got a good 4-0 win, four good goals by four different scorers, a clean sheet, it couldn’t be better,” he said.

“Five straight wins have put us in the mix and the most pleasing thing is the way the team is playing, they look like they are enjoying themselves.

“They are getting the ball down and playing and it’s good to see. We’ve got to keep it going now.

“We’re exactly where we want to be and the most pleasing thing is I think we can play even better.”

The victory brought to an end Chris Smith’s one-month loan spell at Marine, with the Swindon Town player now set to return to the County Ground.

Smith, who was brought on to replace Craig Curtis in the second half, is now thought to be set for trials at Oxford and Aldershot and Webb sent the defender on his way with the club’s best wishes.

“We’d like to wish him every success and if he wants to come back we’d love to have him,” said Webb.

“He’s been brilliant to deal with over the last month.”

Elsewhere in the division, Cirencester were held to a 1-1 draw at home by play-off rivals Tiverton.

The Centurions, who featured Jon Beeden in their line-up following his transfer from Marine, went behind after 35 minutes as Joe Bushin scrambled home.

However, a minute before the break Alex Allard and Ben Wells - also both former Marine players - were involved in the build-up to Ellis Dunton’s equaliser.

In the Southern Premier, yet another former Webb’s Wood favourite, Alan Griffin, rescued a late point for Chippenham at Bedworth.

It had looked as if Aaron Donaldson’s first-half strike would be enough for victory until striker Griffin headed home in the 88th minute.

The two sides cancelled each other out for long periods in the first half, but Lee Phillips was not far off with an an ambitious strike from range.

Griffin smashed Scott Lye’s cross off the surface and over the bar, and five minutes before the break the Warwickshire visitors took the lead.

Donaldson dispossessed Ashley Williams and had a clear run on goal, and he smashed low into the right corner past Ben John.

Ben Polk nearly extended the lead from range before the break and John saved with his legs from Mitchell Piggon after the restart.

Piggon went close twice more and Williams had a crack from range at the other end before Griffin finally made the breakthrough, nodding Brandon Barnes’ cross into the net.

Williams had a strong penalty shout waved away by referee Adam Bayliss in the closing moments and 1-1 was how it stayed.
