Promo a no-go despite double swoop?

No promotion thoughts yet for Di Canio No promotion thoughts yet for Di Canio

TOWN boss Paolo Di Canio has warned that his double capture of Danny Hollands and Chris Martin doesn’t immediately make his side capable of fighting for promotion from League One.

The Italian has repeatedly expressed his concerns about the impact the club’s transfer embargo has had on the Robins’ chances in recent weeks, and after Saturday’s win at Walsall he insisted a promotion challenge was still not realistic.

Di Canio was able to bring Charlton midfielder Hollands and Norwich striker Martin to the County Ground on loan on Thursday, and although he was delighted to have been able to add to his squad, he insisted their arrivals do not mean anything - yet.

“Not because they came are we now going to win, I have the same idea as a few days ago because they only signed recently,” he said.

“The first few days everybody has real enthusiasm and they want to work more and not have Wednesday off. “They join us with full information about my way to manage, because they spoke to each other and they accept and are curious and want it.

“The problem may be if we have a problem in two or three weeks time when we have more confidence when they test the situation. If they are ready to understand they can become a better footballer that can be crucial, but it is clear we brought in players with experience for win in League One.

“But at the moment we are in the same situation as a few days ago, but with two extra players who can make a difference in my team.

“At the moment this didn’t happen, and it doesn’t mean that even if they were very good we are going to go up.

“We lost time and we will see gradually if we can maintain top eight position but it is not easy, I have more option at the moment.

“As they won (League One) already is positive because they have personality and quality, but we can’t realistically think we can stay there for long.”

Paolo playing mind games again IMO. I suspect that he is trying to relax the team before todays home match as we seem to have lost a bit of confidance at home at the moment. Going to be tight but i reckon we will win by the odd goal.

More kidoligy by PDC. When is he going to say "We will win this league" and slam his hand on the table?

When you look at our spot in the table, consider promoted last year as champions we are no doubt consolidating ok.
The injuries and the Embargo were a major set back to Pdc howevever he wants promotion again no doubt about it.
Must admit I have never been a big fan of Pdc yet you must admire what he has done so far for the Town.
From us out here I do wish him and the team all the best especially for the game today

Always the optimist me. We are in the same position as we were a few days ago.
.
We are in 6th position, 4 pts off 2nd, 6 pts off top spot.
.
We have 29 pts with a possible 87 pts up for grabs, giving a total of 116 pts. A realistic target would be 95ish pts to win the league. So another 5/6 defeats would not be disasterous
.
Its all spectulation at the moment, but sufice to say, we are far from a lost cause. This league is still up for grabs.

Onwards and upwards/downwards, whichever you believe in.

Great one jed lol
Hope your ok, still high hopes in Winchester that its only a matter of time until he departs us for saints, I don't think he would last 5 games in the premiership due to his rants and raves. After all he is touting himself on the spread he writes for the bbc
Onwards and upwards

How does the present league position compare wth the same point last season? I wonder if some statistition will tell us. Don't have the programmes I'm afraid.

As a Norwich fan living in Swindon I go to quite a few games at the County Ground, and I'm looking forward to seeing Chris Martin play on a regular basis. I think he could be seriously useful at this level and he's certainly in a different class to Williams and Collins. He's only played two hours of competitive football since coming back from Palace on loan (where he was quite impressive) so PDC needs to make sure he's fully fit. Seen him play a few times and he's always been the most enthusiastic player on the pitch, and he's got good feet for a big lad, as they say.

Hope he does well.

at the start of the season pdc said he wanted to be in the top eight at xmas so we can push on in january and add to the squad like we did last season so far all is fine. he wanted to be where we are now before all this embago rubbish. and now we are out of that we are 7th
3 points off the auto's so dont realy see how he can keep going on about the embago. is he saying that if we hadnt of had the embaro we would be top? i dont think so hes either playing realy bad mind games, trying to **** off the fans or hes forgotten what he said earlier on in the season.
just seems to me that he wont be happy till we sign messi and ronaldo.
what happend to the positive di canio that said last year we will win the league with him sat in the stands? and we did!
stop all the bulls**t pdc and just get us a win today

Following a 1-1 draw away to The Real Wimbledon we had 30pts after 18 games and a goal difference of +12.
....
If we draw at home to Yeovil we'll be on...yep you guessed it - 30pts after 18 games!..but goal difference is FAR worse this season...only +11

PAOLO AND HIS WARRIORS GETTING READY TO GO UP AGAIN.....

Personally I think it is Paolo's mind games to keep his teams and his supporters feet on the floor.

Lower expectations also means he can say "I told you so" when things go a little off plan.

If this is the case I fully understand the reasoning in his down beat comments, but ........

PLEASE PAOLO GIVE US SOME OF LAST SEASONS POSITIVITY. I'M SURE EVERY SUPPORTER WANTS TO BE YOUR ROTTWIELLERS ON THE TERRACES AND BARK AND ROAR OUR TEAM, YOUR TEAM TOWARDS THE TITLE......BUT I BELIEVE MANY OF US ARE WAITING FOR YOUR VERBAL SIGN TO SAY WE CAN DO IT..

YES WE CAN GO UP!
YES WE HAVE GOT A GREAT SQUAD !
YES IT'S STILL EARLY IN THE SEASON, BUT ALREADY WE KNOW WE CAN BE THE BEST IN THIS LEAGUE.

COME ON PAOLO, FIGHT FOR US, FIGHT FOR YOUR PLAYERS AND THEY AND WE WILL MARCH WITH YOU ACROSS THE COUNTRYSIDE TO PROVE YOU RIGHT.

TIME FOR VERBAL POSITIVES.

WE ARE SWINDON AND WE WANT SOMETHING VERBALLY POSITIVE FROM YOU TO LOOK TO AND MARCH BEHIND.

YOUR CODE PAOLO IS "LOYALTY BEFORE EVERYTHING, EXCEPT HONOUR"

Week in week out as fans we display our version of that loyalty and honour as we follow you and our team across the land home and away. Each game we turn up to support your and our personal battles.

PLEASE CAN WE NOW HERE YOUR BATTLE CRY.....

FOLLOW ME, PACK THE COUNTY GROUND; PAOLO AND HIS NEW TEAM OF WARRIORS ARE GOING UP AGAIN....

C.O.Y.R.

So, what your saying is that, as we will be in a worse position if we draw come 5:00 pm today, we've blown our chances of winning the league. Nothing but a win today please. ;-)

PdC won't state we are going to win the league until it looks like we are going to
.
He was not bullish about our chance this time last year- yes he always said we were going for promotion - but the comments about we are the best in this league never kicked in until 2012
.
I said the other day our next 6 have 4 of our promotion rivals in them with 3 at home
.
If we get a decent return of 4 wins and 2 draws out of that - you will soon see a change in attitude as we are likely to be top 2 with the window about to open

London Red says...
11:57am Sat 17 Nov 12

Also lets not forget our home run in 2013 will be easier
.
We would have already played Sheff U, MK, Bournemouth, Tranmere, Brentford, Crawley and Doncaster by then!

London Red says...
11:59am Sat 17 Nov 12

You could also throw in Covenrty who I expect to dramatically improve as the season goes on under Robins
.
So only really Preston and Stevenage to come - as Pompey are screwed!
.
That is in terms of promotion rivals

12:01pm Sat 17 Nov 12

Oh and Notts Co sorry - we have them away shorty so they are still to come in 2013 too

From the news supplied we are in a better position than this time last season (with the Yeovil result) and have an improved situation against our competitors.
Cheer up Paolo, give us a smile, forget the embargo and whatever else worries you. Few more wins under the belt and goal difference will be forgotten.
