SWINDON legend Don Rogers believes the current crop of Town players have what it takes to fight for a second-straight promotion this season.

The former winger is still a regular at the County Ground to watch his old side in action, and will be in the crowd for this afternoon’s game with Yeovil on what is the 50th anniversary of his debut for the club.

The 67-year-old has been impressed with Paolo Di Canio’s side so far this season, and has backed the Robins to earn a top-six finish - even if the current boss is not so sure.

“It is going brilliantly really, and you can’t complain at all about what they have done,” he said.

“The manager is one of his own and treats players in a bit of a funny way, but he gets results and that is the main thing.

“If we are up the top of the league everybody is happy, and he has done a great job so far although it is a long season and there is a long way to go.

“I think it will be very tight at the top, but we have seen the rest of the teams in the league and we are as good as any of them, so we have to fancy our chances of being in the top six and we just need to keep going.”

Rogers was sad to see Paul Benson leave the club to join Portsmouth, but still believes there is plenty of quality in the Town squad.

“I liked Benson and I don’t think he did anything wrong and he is a good player, so I was sad to see him go,” he said.

“But I do like Andy Williams and he has been a very good signing, and probably the best he has made. He could do with adding a few more goals to his game but he is such a grafter and he has been a big difference in there.

“I like Tommy Miller, Alan McCormack and the goalkeeper, and none of the players have really let themselves down at all.

“I like Aden Flint too even though he can be a bit over-zealous, but he is a good defender.

“They have all done their jobs, and there is certainly a good squad there.”
