TWO records were broken as 500 runners took part in the Swindon 10k in near-perfect conditions.

Swindon Harrier Pete Molloy smashed the vet 60 record with an outstanding time of 36:16, the 63-year-old’s fastest 10k run since 2005.

Jackie Cooper of Newbury AC lowered the vet ladies 45 time after she crossed the line in 39:50.

Bristol & West’s William Christofi worked his way up to the leaders and hit the front after 4km.

The 18-year-old found another gear in the second lap to increase his advantage and win in an impressive time of 32:35, just under a minute quicker than he recorded last year.

Second-placed Matt Shannon of Cirencester AC finished in 34:00, closely followed by Karl Spielmann in 34:03.

Elizabeth Smith (Westbury Harriers) improved on her third-placed finish last year by winning the women’s race in 38:42.

She was followed by Jennifer MacMaster in 39:14 with third going to Diana Kennedy of Bristol & West in 39:47.

Bristol & West’s won the men team prize and Swindon Striders took the women’s team competition.

Race organiser Steve Goulding would like to thank Run Swindon, Swindon Karting Centre, St John Ambulance and the marshals at the event.

Meanwhile, the Rough 'n' Tumble 10 mile multi-terrain event will be on January 13 next year. Entries are now being taken. See www.grassrootsevents.co.uk for further details.
