THE SWINDON Town Football in the Community Trust education programme scholars lost out by the odd goal in seven to Premier League opposition this week.

Following an entertaining draw against Southampton in their previous outing, the Robins managed three goals against local rivals Reading but could not force victory.

Evidently full of confidence, Town took the lead in the opening minutes through Corey Horgan, but the Royals responded and by half-time raced into a 3-1 win.

Perhaps deflated by what had happened, Swindon were slovenly in the early moments, allowing their opponents to go further in front, before waking up and staging a late rally.

Brandon De Souza teed up Horgan to net his second of the afternoon before Jack Jones rounded off a fine team move with a neat finish to give Town hope.

Unfortunately for the Robins, who dominated the final quarter of the encounter, no fourth goal was forthcoming.

The female scholars started the week off well with a comprehensive 4-1 win over Wiltshire Under 16s at Swindon Academy.

Laura McGlone scored twice before two late strikes from Kerry Walklett completed the victory.

The Community Trust is currently recruiting for their September 2013 intake of the full-time BTEC Level Three course, which incorporates a focus on football.

The education programme is supported by a rigorous daily training programme with a member of the club’s training staff as well as weekly fixtures against other professional clubs and local sixth forms.
