THE poor recent weather meant only three games took place in the Swindon & District League over the weekend, with Swiss Chalet Rangers making the most of their run-out in a 3-2 win over Spectrum.

The Premier Division clash ebbed and flowed, with Gareth Walton firing the hosts ahead before Dave Pritchard netted a second for Rangers.

After half-time two Aaron Northcott goals drew Spectrum back into the contest, and the visitors had a chance to claim all three points when they were awarded a late penalty.

However, the spot kick was missed and Spectrum were made to pay the price when Rangers countered down the other end of the pitch and Daryl Herring scored the winner.

In Division One, Tap and Barrel kept pace with league leaders Old Town United with a 3-1 victory over Ramsbury.

Dave Toomey netted a hat-trick for the hosts, getting Tap off the mark in the 35th minute and firing home the second and third after half-time, while Ramsbury grabbed a late consolation through Jeremy Martin.

Tap are now just three points behind table-topping Old Town.

Sportz Central also enjoyed a successful weekend as they consolidated fifth place in the table with a 3-2 win over Larry’s Plaice.

The hosts took an early lead when Ashley Sheppard netted after five minutes and held the advantage for half-an-hour before Alisto Pires equalised for Sportz Central 10 minutes before half-time.

In the second half both sides embarked on free-flowing, attacking football but it took until the 70th minute for the next goal of the game to arrive.

When it did, it was Larry’s Plaice who were celebrating after Steve Nichols buried a header in the pack of the net to put them back in front.

However, the visitors quickly rallied and Pires was on hand to level for the second time in the match, before Pete Ockwell rounded over a fine set-piece move with two minutes left of the 90 to hand Sportz Central all three points.
