CHRIS Wood popped up two minutes from time to give Old Town United a 3-2 win over Sportz Central in Division One.

Old Town have now won each of their nine games in the league this season thanks to Wood’s late winner, and sit six points clear at the top of the table going into the festive break.

Earlier in the clash, Wood had opened the scoring for United before Craig Dodson scored a long-range screamer.

Fourth-placed Sportz Central battled back, however, and goals from Pete Ockwell and Ryan Phillips seemed to have earned them a share of the spoils until Wood’s 88th minute strike.

Fox & Hound kept tabs on Old Town with an emphatic 6-2 victory at Larry’s Plaice.

The visitors took the lead in the 18th minute when Darren Rudman slotted home a penalty and it only took two further minutes for Lee Gratton to double Hound’s advantage.

The away side seemed to be scoring at will, and Gratton added a third in the 22nd minute before Rudman waltzed past four players to tuck home the fourth.

Out of sight by half-time, Hounds took their foot off the gas after the break. Rudman completed his hat-trick in the 50th minute before Steve Holmes grabbed scarce consolation from the spot.

The hosts scored again, courtesy of David Sowerby, in the 67th minute, but any vague ideas of a monumental comeback were soon extinguished when Jamie Ringham notched Fox & Hound’s sixth of the afternoon.

The visitors now sit in third place in Division One, seven points off leaders Old Town.

In the Premier Division, Village Inn leapfrogged Lower Stratton with a 2-1 victory over their rivals.

Village Inn went in front in the first half through Daniel Kingsbury and he doubled their lead after the interval.

Stratton pulled a goal back late on but could not force an equaliser.
