PAUL Benson, Oliver Risser and Luke Rooney still have a future with Swindon Town, according to manager Paolo Di Canio.

The trio are currently on loan with Portsmouth, Stevenage and Rotherham respectively, having been deemed surplus to requirements at the County Ground earlier in the campaign.

However, Di Canio stressed that while they might have been out of favour at the beginning of the season that doesn’t automatically mean they won’t be able to fight their way back into his plans for the Robins in the months to come.

And he said each player would be made “more than welcome” if and when they return to Wiltshire.

“I know them. I don’t mind about what has happened in the last few weeks, even if it is important that someone has played many games,” he said.

“Paul Benson has played four games - he didn’t score but he did his job and he was very professional. We know Paul so if he’s coming back he’s more than welcome.

“Oliver hasn’t played many games, he’s had some as a sub but everybody loves him there because he’s a real professional, he’s dedicated and committed and if he’s coming back, he doesn’t want to stay there or they don’t want to keep him there, he’s more than welcome.

“We also don’t know what’s going on with (John) Bostock, with Danny Hollands and we could have a similar situation that we had one month or two months ago.

“Luke Rooney didn’t play one game. We don’t know what’s going on and we have to make a decision and then we will see.

“I don’t need to make my judgement on the last two weeks.

“I know their quality, I know their professionalism. In the last few weeks I made a decision but that doesn’t mean they can’t be part of my team in the future and do a good job for us.”

Meanwhile, Town were left frustrated by the weather as their Boxing Day visit to Leyton Orient was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The game at Brisbane Road was called off in the early afternoon on Christmas Day, with no date yet decided for the rearranged fixture.
