SWINDON TOWN: Charlton boss Powell wants quick decision on Hollands
4:30pm Thursday 3rd January 2013 in Sport
Danny Hollands
CHARLTON manager Chris Powell wants midfielder Danny Hollands' future decided by Monday.
Hollands, who will play the last match of his current loan spell with Swindon Town against Carlisle at the County Ground this weekend, is currently impressing with the Robins and he is expected to remain with Town until the end of the season.
Whatever happens, his Addicks boss is keen to see any potential deal finalised as soon as possible.
When asked if he has a future at Charlton, Powell said: "He has but I’m going to have to speak to him and his representative and see where we go from Saturday because he has been out, he wanted to go out so I let him go out and obviously he has done OK.
"Then it is a question of do I want him back here? Does he want to come back? Does he want to stay? We’ve got to do what is right for everyone.
"I’m in discussions with Swindon and with him and his agent to see where we go. Swindon haven’t said much yet.
"We’ve obviously made contact knowing that the deal is up on Saturday and now it is about what happens in the next 48 hours. I would like it resolved before Saturday so everyone is happy with what is going to happen from Monday onwards."

That last sentence bothers me...he is one of those we want to keep - who is it they have to talk to?...hopefully not Patey as I'm sure it would be waffle waffle waffle and oops we've lost him!!
...
Let's hope Patey doesn't get involved and we don't end up in a political battle behind the scenes with Paolo.

1. We find some clubs to take the likes of Risser, Cox and the Rooneys on loan/back.
2. Sell one of our crown jewels (noooo!!!!)
1. Sell-on fee if Austin moves from Burnley for big spondoolies.
Powell may well want an answer by Monday but he may well have to wait. I hope Patey at least has the good sense to say (to Charlton and to Paolo) that we're interested, but need to offload players from the wage bill first.

The key questions for us are;
Does PDC want to keep Danny Hollands, or each of the other players, on loan until the end of the season? {mindful of the fact that the Chairman has indicated that there is no big money to sign new players}
Can we afford to keep Hollands and stay within the wage budget?
Do the Board still support a serious push for automatic promotion, particularly after the dramatically improved results recently? This is the million dollar question, oh to be a fly on the wall at the Board Meeting today!!

So do we all, would like to see us buy him, but more likely an extension until the end of the season would be just as good. I would think Ward will also be a done deal with Millwall very early, have to remember none of our loanees are available after Saturday if decisions are not made early we will be going to B'muff with a weakened team. Hope we also keep Bostock and Martin, but I wouldn't bet on it.
Much depends I guess on the board meeting and how many of the players considered not good enough we can get off the wage bill. Benson is almost definitely going to Pompey, maybe Cox will return to Pox and hope we'll get something sorted with Caddis. Luke Rooney is still an asset and surely some club will take him until the end of season. That leaves Risser..............
...doh.

Frankly no manager gets it right all of the time and I'm guessing Sir Wes more than covers all of these on his own. Anyone think Devera or Macca are rubbish or Raffa or for that matter Willow and Collins? I just find the criticism knee jerk and ridiculous.
Furthermore to criticise him for a fee set by tribunal on Troy seems just plain ridiculous. As it happens I remember how he played the first three games of the season and thought we had an unbelievable buy. But whether he's any good or not I can't for the life of me understand the criticism.
As for Powell wanting it sorted by Monday no need to give him the answer on Thursday is there? Whilst we have no money even if we had why would the board say?
Lets just wait and see. I know I'm the exception that proves the rule but Bostock is the "big one " for me. The others I (and only I) think we can cover....

dreamo, I disagree with you on Bostock. Ferry has been playing superbly of late. While he's in this kind of form, how is Bostock going to get into the side?
.
I would be more concerned about Hollands going back to Charlton, as his and Ferry's different attributes seem to complement each other.

Dear oh dear, when did I fall asleep and awaken again only to find the old regime back at the helm??
.
I see Risser is back, no wonder he's smiling in that picture!
.
No Pox for the Cox....it just gets better.
.
Can anyone really wonder at why none of our loaned out players will be extending their stayaways?
.
I'm sure this time last week I was as happy as the proverbial pig in sh1t.

If we could get Navarro and Miller to transform like Collins and Williams of late then perhaps the whole picture would change, but that is seemingly unlikely. I'd go for the minimum, Ward and Hollands and let the rest go with deep reluctance. No good having what we can't afford and then going into Admin and having points deducted. best to soldier on and hope others also don't get all they want.
The fact we have heard nothing from our manager says to me negotiation is still ongoing. When he is ready, he will spill be beans, no doubt about that.

People need to stop jumping to conclusions. Sure no news is a little unsettling but it will become a little clearer over the next few weeks.
In the meantime put your energy into your travelling Saturday, do your bit and show you care by attending the Carlisle game.

Den whilst he might not get in ahead of Ferry what do we do if Si gets injured? I also think he'll be one hell of a player. Also what if we play five in midfield and one up front? I also think we have enough cover at centre half despite the doomsayers. As I said its only my opinion as we all see it differently.
As I've thought since last November/December we'd get back to back promotions I'm not likely to change MY opinion now.... With or without a transfer budget! As Duke says let's just wait and see where players end up and who stays or arrives. As I said previously why would you tell Danial Levy or anyone else you've got any money?

I think Ward has to be the priority signing and probably the cheapest and best value for money.

So with them going out again if we can agree extensions at the same terms no more money should be required as it should simply be stays quo
.
Then with Coke going back that should allow room to sign Madine in a one for one basis
.
I personally thought the comment was in terms of transfer fees - as in don't expect a repeat of last Jan where we will splash out a net £300k on new players rather than we are going to slash the budget
.
Granted if the 4 out returned we may have to lose one or two to cover their increased wages - but if they go back out again surely it's as you were - which is pretty good!

But as far a I am aware he has had nothing to do with betfair since mid 2010.

Cox back as well, seems no-one wants any of our loanees!
I hope PDC does learn from this for next year, in that make sure you really do have the right player you want.
I guess at this moment in time we could very well be having Caddis back also!
So all our loanees are not rated by any of the teams that took them, might be an exception, says a lot about the quailty of them.

Paolo was given extra cash before the last window closed but he couldn't get his target therefore that money should still be available.
Even if that money is no longer there we could still cope if negotiations are handled correctly.
Too many people looking through negative glasses and reading far too much into a snippet of a story. Wait for the whole picture to be painted and signed before you all have a coronary event as my doc would say..

Paolo also says a lot of words, without people really understanding anything.
The truth may well lie somewhere in between, although I hope Paolo's version is true (I'd trust him over Patey any day. Diplomats are little more than bullshitters).
Of course, whatever has been said before doesn't alter the possibility that the owner(s) have changed their minds, want out, and won't throw any more money after bad.
LR - I think Den was wanting more details on the site/link where you saw Paolo's comments
