Offers made for Benson, Risser, Rooney and Cox
SWINDON Town have received offers for four out-of-favour members of their first-team squad, manager Paolo Di Canio has revealed.
Striker Paul Benson and midfielder Oliver Risser are both the subject of permanent approaches by League Two clubs, Luke Rooney is a loan target for an unnamed League One side and Lee Cox is wanted by a club in the bottom division.
Di Canio, who needs to cut his wage bill to free up the cash necessary to strengthen his squad in the January transfer window, would not go into great detail regarding the bids.
However, he did say Benson had received an offer off a two-year deal with a promotion-chasing outfit in the basement division.
Cox, who was wanted back by Oxford where he has spent the first half of the campaign, failed to secure a return to the Kassam Stadium.
“Rooney has a chance to try with a League One team. We will see what is going on,” Di Canio said.
“Oliver Risser has a good offer from a League Two side that want him. We will see how the situation will evolve, and Cox too - not with Oxford, with another club.
“Oxford can’t keep him. We will see.
“Benson has got a very big opportunity at his age. He received a very, very good offer - even an extension of his contract - we will see which reaction he’s going to have.
“It would be good for him also because at his age, at a club in a good position who will give him two years of contract is something to think about in a positive way.
“I know that he wants to play League One but Portsmouth have big problems.
“It depends on them. If they want to stay then they are part of the team and they will train but all of them have got opportunities to go to other clubs. It depends on them.”
