SWINDON TOWN: Martin ready for 'biggest game' of the season
CHRIS Martin rates this weekend’s League One clash with Bournemouth as the most important of his two-month spell with Swindon Town.
The on-loan Norwich forward, who extended his stay in Wiltshire by 28 days on Monday, has already been a part of matches against the promotion-chasing trio of Tranmere, Doncaster and Notts County, but it is the visit to Dean Court which stands out most to the 24-year-old.
Martin expects the Swindon squad to need little extra motivation to perform on Saturday and, with the game afforded top billing in the division, he knows how crucial a good result could be in the long run.
“It’s probably the biggest game since I’ve been here, maybe on a par with the Tranmere game and we all saw how up for it we were against Tranmere,” he said.
“These are the kind of games, touch wood, that you don’t really have to get yourselves up for.
“It’s already there for you.
“Tough games against lower opposition that are fighting for their lives are sometimes the harder ones to get yourselves motivated for.
“When it’s a big clash against a big club in this league in Bournemouth, they’re spent a lot of money and put together a good team, it’s a bit easier.
“They’re unbeaten in something like 15 games now so they’ve obviously got a solid base to work from.
“They’ve got some talent on the pitch and the manager as well.
“We know how tough it’s going to be but we went to a tough place in Oldham and beat them.
“We’ll be going there with confidence and hopefully we can put that into practice on the pitch.”
