Hall captures winter medal

JOHN Hall won the Cirencester seniors winter medal competition with a nett 66 off his 12 handicap.

On a course in excellent condition despite recent heavy rain, Hall birdied the tricky fourth and never looked back.

Michael Leadbetter, a newcomer to the seniors circuit, had a fantastic outward nine with 28 nett.

He fell away somewhat on the back nine but still recorded a nett 68 off 16, allowing him to take second in Division One.

There were six players tied on 69 nett, all of which play off single-figure handicaps.

In order of placing after a card count they were Andrew Leith, Gerry Bruton, Tony Crowther, Dave Jones, Clive Bennett and Ken Mills, the latter of which had the best gross of the day on 77.

In Division Two for players in the 17-28 handicap bracket, the winner was Stefano Episcopo (handicap 20) whose birdie at the second helped him to 68.

Second was the resurgent John McCafferty with nett 70 off a 19 handicap.

Tony Gattrell also carded 70 (21) to finish third while Geoff Knight with 71 (17) and John Binder with 72 (18) took the minor places.
