FLOYD Taylor is only targeting gold as he prepares to lead Great Britain Under 18s into battle at the World Championships (Division 2A) in March.

The 17-year-old Swindon Wildcats forward has been handed the captaincy role for the tournament from March 30-April 6, and he is confident his team can enjoy a title-winning week in Tallinn, Estonia.

Opposition for GB comes in the form of the hosts, Croatia, Hungary, Lithuania and Romania, but Taylor is adamant that he and his teammates have what it takes to top the group.

“I was really happy when I found out, it’s a big honour to play for Great Britain as it is and not many people get the chance to be captain,” he said.

“Last year was my first with Great Britain Under 18s, I was assistant captain and we came fourth (in the World Championships).

“We lost our first game and if we’d have won that we’d have been on the road for gold, but hopefully we’ll bring the gold back this time.

“(The opposition) are all good players. They are talented, hard and skate fast, but we should do good as we have a good team ourselves.

“I’d love a gold. I don’t see the point in bringing home a medal unless it’s a gold medal.

“People ask you what medal you have and if you say gold, it’s a much bigger achievement than a bronze or silver.”

Meanwhile, Wildcats head coach Ryan Aldridge has taken to Twitter in his efforts to sign a forward.

The Link Centre supremo has been on the lookout for a British player ever since Nicky Watt announced his intention to leave over a week ago, and with the Scot having now rejoined former club Basingstoke, Aldridge is desperate for a replacement.

Efforts so far have not resulted in a new player coming in and Aldridge is hoping the world of social networking can present him with a solution.

He tweeted: “I'm looking for a British forward to finish the season and paying a competitive salary. Please email me @ Ryan.aldridge@swindonwildcats.com”.

The Cats are already stretched with Jamie Hayes injured and Lee Richardson possibly out for the season with a knee injury.

Swindon’s EPL campaign continues this weekend with a double-header against Milton Keynes, with the home game on Sunday (6pm).
