RUNNING: Wiltshire Race League set for Longleat curtain-raiser
6:00am Saturday 26th January 2013 in Sport
THE 2013 Wiltshire Road Race League will get underway on Sunday, February 3 with the Longleat 10k.
This year’s event is sponsored by Newsquest, the parent company of the Swindon Advertiser, and will again feature 12 races throughout the year, concluding with the Salisbury Half Marathon on October 20.
Following victories in both the men’s and ladies’ tables by Avon Valley Runners in the inaugural race league in 2012, the new season will see the ladies competing alongside the men with the scores achieved by both contributing to a club points tally. The league will be split into two divisions.
Last year’s Longleat race saw an early team victory for Chippenham Harriers over rivals Avon Valley, who as defending champions start the new season as favourites to retain their title. However, this year both Swindon Harriers and Team Bath are threatening to challenge for the title.
Frome Running Club have now affiliated to Wiltshire Athletic Association and will be supporting two teams in the second division.
Awards will also be made to the highest scoring man and woman within the league and also in the vet 40, vet 50 and vet 60 age categories.
