ANNA Mayes’ England side completed a brilliant series whitewash of Australia courtesy of a 58-51 victory in game three at Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on Saturday.
Swindonian Mayes, a former Lawn player, is head coach of the national team, and masterminded a third Test win on the spin over the world’s top-ranked outfit.
Having already sealed the series three days earlier at Wembley, Mayes still named a strong side but the wounded Aussies came out fighting, storming into a 15-11 lead in the opening quarter.
That deficit was reduced to a single point by half time before the hosts turned on the style in the third quarter to move 43-38 ahead and saw out the job in the final period.
