SWINDON boxing coach Paddy Fitzpatrick returned from Las Vegas disappointed last weekend after his boxer Selcuk Aydin was beaten.

Fitzpatrick helps train Aydin with top London coach Adam Booth.

Aydin, who was fighting Jesus Soto Karass at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on the Vegas strip, was hoping victory could set up a potential money-spinning fight against Floyd Mayweather Junior.

However, Karass was judged to have done enough against Turkish boxer Aydin, winning a maority verdict 97-93, 95-95, 97-93.

Fitzpatrick said he couldn’t complain about the defeat although his gut feeling immediately after the fight was that his man had got the decision.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted,” said Fitzpatrick. “It’s one of those things to be honest, just part of the sport.

“I thought we had done enough and I usually get a good feeling for when my boxers have won or lost.

“Quite a few other people that I respect said they felt the other dude was the busier boxer and deserved the win, so I need to go back and study the fight.

“At the end of the day I have no complaints, I think the decision could have gone either way.”

Fitzpatrick now turns his attention to Irish middleweight Andy Lee, who he is training in readiness for a fight in Belfast on February 9.
