- Trust STFC issue statement after Di Canio's comments on Friday
8:00pm
That's it from us, folks. A lot of straight-batted answers from Paolo Di Canio to questions regarding his future at Swindon Town after his players secure a good point on the road.
We'll be back with you from Colchester's Weston Homes Community Stadium from 6.30pm on Tuesday, by the sounds of it Di Canio will be too.
Until next time.
7:57pm
Striker Rooney was just pleased to be involved having not featured for Town since November 24.
ADAM ROONEY
“It is good to get on because I have been waiting for a chance, it came tonight and I got on the scoresheet which helped us get a point," he said.
“The lads had been on a great run and the forwards were banging in goals, so I have been patient and taken my chance.
“I just grabbed the ball and the lads let me have it, and thankfully I scored.”
7:50pm
Di Canio was pleased with the point his side earned today, and praised the impact of sub Adam Rooney.
ADAM ROONEY
“In the way we started the game and finished the first half it is a good point, it is obvious I wasn’t enjoying the first half.
“The players feel the cause more than ever, and at the end we score a goal and have a few chances.
“It was a good point and we stay there, it is another away game gone and we play again Tuesday.
“Rooney has been ready for a few weeks and he was a different player, I tried him also in a wide area and he played a very important part.
“Credit has to go to him and I know now I can give him a chance."
7:48pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio is currently speaking to the media, and is not talking about his future today.
PAOLO DI CANIO
“I don’t think about this, it is a match day and the statement is clear," he said.
“I speak only about my players and we look forward to the future.
“There is a moment where you have to make decision on something, and I did that yesterday.
“It is easy to say why not after the game, but I have one reason.
“It took 10 or 15 minutes to make the statement then I am an animal straight away again.
“You can spend 10 or 15 minutes watching a beautiful film or watching a football match, or making a statement.
“Today I was totally focused.
“Tomorrow we are working, Monday we are working and we play a game on Tuesday where three points we can win.
“I am preparing the next game.”
7:40pm
Di Canio is currently talking in the middle of the pitch with his agent Phil Spencer.
SPENCER AND DI CANIO
7:32pm
Di Canio will be coming up to speak to the local media in the next few minutes.
7:30pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio tells Sky Sports he was NOT waving goodbye to the Swindon Town fans.
He says he does not want to talk about his future.
7:27pm
Paolo Di Canio speaking live on Sky Sports now
7:20pm
7:17pm
Sky Sports saying Di Canio looked tearful as he saluted the Town fans at the end of the game.
We couldn't see anything from up here, but I'm sure plenty of questions will be answered when Paolo speaks to the media in a few minutes.
7:12pm
FULL-TIME: Crawley Town 1 Swindon Town 1
7:11pm
90+4 minutes: Thompson wriggles his way into the area but toe-pokes a shot at the keeper.
7:10pm
90 minutes: Flint does superbly to power a Dumbaya cross behind with hishead. Very authoritative. Town do well to clear two corners.
7:09pm
SUBSTITUTION: Mike Jones replaced by Sergio Torres
7:09pm
88 minutes: Jones tries to swing a cross into the box, but only managed to launch the ball out of the ground. Four minutes added on.
7:07pm
87 minutes: Rooney does well to block Matt Sparrow’s shot.
7:06pm
Anyone else getting the Northampton Town away feeling? #stfcadver
— @calbrowntown 02 February 2013
7:04pm
84 minutes: Rooney’s shot is deflected and loops into the air, and after Ward challenges keeper Jones a free-kick is given. Very very harsh.
7:00pm
ATTENDANCE: 3,558 (699 Town fans)
6:59pm
SUBSTITUTION: Lateef Elford-Alliyu replaces Billy Clarke.
6:59pm
SUBSTITUTION: Roberts replaced by Chris Martin. 11 minutes left for him in a Town shirt.
6:58pm
78 mintues: Gary Roberts goes into the book for foul on Matt Sadler.
6:56pm
76 minutes: Miller and Jones clash heads, with both players receiving treatment before coming back on.
6:55pm
75 minutes: Roberts sends a teasing ball into the box which finds Williams, but the striker heads wide when he could have done better.
6:50pm
70 minutes: Williams wins a corner of Dumbuya, and after the ball is pinged around inside the box for nearly a minute, Crawley can clear after a free-kick is given against Miller.
6:46pm
66 minutes: Rooney just keeps influencing this game. This time the Irishman fires in a header at the near port, forcing a superb one-handed save from Jones.
6:43pm
63 minutes: Rooney breaks into the area and flashes the ball across the six-yard box instead of pulling it back for the advancing Roberts.
6:41pm
61 minutes: Crawley come straight out looking to regain their lead, and have penalty appeals turned away after Thompson blocks a shot behind with his chest.
6:39pm
59 minutes: GOAL 1-1 (Rooney pen) Rooney steps up to take the kick himself, and smashes the ball home. Great penalty.
6:38pm
PENALTY: The referee points to the spot after Adam Rooney is pushed to the floor by Joe Walsh.
6:32pm
DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION: Jay McEveley and James Collins replaced by Nathan Thompson and the lesser spotted Adam Rooney.
6:31pm

6:30pm
49 minutes: Josh Simpson sweeps a shot into the arms of Foderingham.
6:27pm
47 minutes: Jones runs the ball out for a goal kick, but if he had gone down he may have earned himself a penalty after McEveley had his arms all over the winner.
6:22pm
Teams back out for the second half and we are underway again. No changes.
6:15pm
6:09pm Sat 2 Feb 13
Moonraker1983 says
I can't watch anymore. It's a team devoid of ideas. When did we just start smacking it long and hoping for the best. Roberts can't deliver the ball and they've worked out the corner routine.
Fresh ideas for the second half. It's as if all the good ideas and invention went with Ritchie.
Worrying isn't it. In their defence the middle of the pitch is like a bog, but a team used to passing it around will always struggle when they decide to go long.
6:12pm
Not much quality from either side so far, but in honesty the home side have looked slightly more threatening in front of goal. Aden Flint is being pulled around the pitch by Billy Clarke and Jamie Proctor, with Clarke often dropping deep and looking to find his strike partner.
It should be 2-0 after Proctor saw an effort superbly saved by Wes Foderingham, but Town are still in this and need a big second period.
6:08pm
HALF-TIME: Crawley 1 (Clarke pen 23) Swindon 0
6:07pm
45 minutes: Foderingham keeps Town in it as he dives well to his left to save Proctor's effort. Flint had been sucked in to allow Clarke to play a good play in behind, with McEveley playing him onside.
6:06pm
45 minutes: Roberts fouls Adams, but Town are able to clear before Dumbuya stops Roberts’ break. One minute added.
6:04pm
Manager Paolo Di Canio spending very little time on the touchline in this first half.
6:03pm
40 minutes: McCormack jumps too early and misses his header, but gets lucky as the tricky Adams can’t control and knocks it out for a Town throw.
6:00pm
37 minutes: Town win a corner, but Miller’s first attempt is called back for the referee to speak to Roberts and Dumbuya. The second effort is cleared.
5:58pm
34 minutes: The ballis worked across the field for Roberts who cuts inside, and gets off a shot which is deflected over for a corner, which is cleared.
5:54pm
31 minutes: Crawley win another corner, and this time it is Simon Ferry who heads clear well.
5:52pm
29 minutes: Josh Simpson weaves his way into the Town box and past Flint, but Ward comes across to cover and deflect the Crawley captain’s shot out for a corner. The centre-half then managed to clear the following set-piece with a very brave header.
5:45pm
22 minutes GOAL 1-0 CRAWLEY (Clarke, pen): Alan McCormack drags down Adams, and Billy Clarke steps up and smashes the ball past Wes Foderingham. Definite penalty, and Town will have to come from behind.
5:44pm
20 minutes: Nicky Adams sends in a free-kick, which Flint clears well.
5:42pm
18 minutes: Darren Ward heads back across the box from a long free-kick, and Williams guides a headers straight at Jones. Would have caused problems if he had headed the ball down.
5:41pm
17 minutes: Jones clips in a pin-point ball for Jamie Proctor, but the striker is offside.
5:36pm
13 minutes: Flint heads another corner back across the box, but Dumbuya is there to clear the danger inside his six yard box.
5:35pm
12 minutes: Jay McEveley does superbly to see the ball out under pressure from Dumbuya.
5:33pm
PAOLO DI CANIO WATCHES THE WARM-UP AT CRAWLEY (Dave Evans)
5:29pm
Six minutes: Wes Foderingham does well to hammer a short Jay McEveley back-pass clear.
5:27pm
Four minutes: Tommy Miller sends in a deep corner which Aden Flint does well to head back into danger, allowing James Collins to bundle an effort towards goal and into the arms of Paul Jones.
5:26pm
Three minutes: Dumbuya sends the ball into the box which Mike Jones manages to send towards goal, but his effort is blocked.
5:23pm
Pretty scrappy start so far, with neither team getting the ball under control on a surface which is already cutting up.
5:20pm
We are underway
5:20pm
Town into their pre-match huddle, and we are nearly ready to go.

IN THE HOME DUGOUT – Richie Barker
The former Sheffield Wednesday, Rotherham and Mansfield striker is in his first season as the Red Devils’ manager, having taken over following Sean O’Driscoll’s incredibly brief reign which lasted only two months.
As a journeyman lower league football Barker scored over 100 goals, most of which came in two spells for Rotherham as he helped them win promotion to the Championship in 2001.
After retiring he moved into coaching with Bury’s youth team, before taking over the top job in 2011.
After O’Driscoll’s departure Crawley came calling, where he was worked alongside director of football Steve Coppell to lead the club to mid-table safety following promotion last season.

Town boss Paolo Di Canio tells Sky Sports his only priority is today's game, and will not be discussing his future.
"The most important thing is today's game. If we win today we are very close to the top and that's the priority," he said.
4:48pm
DANGER MEN
Billy Clarke (left)
The former Ipswich and Blackpool man is capable of playing both out wide and through the middle, but is expected to take up a central striking role this afternoon. A cruciate knee ligament injury has robbed him of a yard of pace, but he is still more than capable of getting in behind and causing problems. When he does get a chance, he is a quality finisher.
Matt Sparrow

The midfielder has a wealth of experience in the Football League, most notably for Scunthorpe. He is both creative and direct, and can just as easily drive in behind the defence or play a killer ball into the strikers. Sparrow can also pop up with a vital goal, and needs to be watched.
Jamie Proctor

The striker will make his Red Devils debut this afternoon after signing on a permanent deal from Swansea. He was predicted to be a star in the making when with hometown club Preston, but after earning himself a move to Wales he failed to make the grade. Proctor is a good all-round striker, who can hold the ball up and beat his man in equal measure.

A turbulent week at the County Ground came to a head last night when Paolo Di Canio released a statement exclusively to the Swindon Advertiser stating that he is considering his future at the County Ground.
Di Canio's comments came after the sale of Matt Ritchie to Bournemouth without his knowledge or approval, which the Italian said was contrary to the terms of his contract.
PAOLO DI CANIO
Following the breaking of the news on www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk at around 7pm, the story spread like wildfire.
Today, the Adver has received a statement from Trust STFC - who lay out four questions they would like answered.
It reads: "The Supporters Trust is extremely concerned at Paolo Di Canio’s statement that he is considering his position. Paolo has been the principal reason for our club’s extraordinary success over the past 18 months and it is vital that he remains to finish the job he has started.
"We are grateful to the new owners for enabling the club to avoid administration following Andrew Black’s decision to divest himself of Swindon Town.
"In view of Paolo’s account of events in the past few days however the new owners owe it to the fans and indeed to Paolo urgently to clarify the following matters:
- 1. Who is currently running our club?
- 2. What steps are the new owners taking to ensure that we retain the services of key members of the playing staff and the manager?
- 3. Who are the members of the consortium who have bought the club?
- 4. Do they still plan to take the club to Championship level in the time scale agreed by the previous board with the manager?
"We urge Mr McCrory to allay these concerns immediately."
4:07pm
TEAM NEWS
Nothing official as yet but here's a quick rundown of those we know are definitely out of action for Swindon today.
Joe Devera suffered a recurrence of a hamstring injury on Tuesday night and misses out, as does Miles Storey with a similar problem.
JOE DEVERA
Troy Archibald-Henville continues his recovery from a knee operation, while rumours are circulating of an illness bug within the Town squad - which has yet to be confirmed.
Youngster Aaron Oakley travelled with the Robins and may feature.
4:04pm
LEAGUE ONE HALF-TIMES
Everything seems to be going Town’s way this afternoon, with Tranmere, Doncaster, Notts County and Brentford all losing, while Sheffield United lost to Coventry last night.
Half-time scores: Bury 2 Doncaster 0, Crewe 0 Scunthorpe 0, Hartlepool 1 Notts County 0, MK Dons Bournemouth 2, Portsmouth 1 Colchester 3, Preston 1 Shrewsbury 0, Stevenage 0 Leyton Orient 1, Tranmere 0 Carlisle 1, Walsall 1 Oldham 1, Yeovil 2 Brentford 0.

4:00pm
Good afternoon ladies and gents and welcome to the Advertiser’s live coverage of Swindon Town’s trip to Crawley.
After the events of the past week the football comes as a welcome distraction from the confusion and conjecture about the state of the club’s boardroom, and the Robins will be hoping to secure all three points at the Broadfield Stadium.
Town have won their last three matches against the Red Devils, all by a 3-0 scoreline, and a repeat of that result would go down very nicely indeed come seven o’clock this evening.
Stick with us for all the best build-up to the match, followed by match updates and reaction.
Buckle up and enjoy.

I come bearing some excellent news, as we speak, PDC has a very important meeting planned and if my info is correct (as it has been all the way) I come bearing news that our take over is now going to be completed by Tuesday and some of the 3 players we had hoped to sign on Thursday should be available. OK, well 2, i am not going to be drawn into more at this time As PDC has had some of his wish, it's still his decision, I will say he has received a chance to speak with another club, but the new chairman (potential chairman) has put some kind of guarantee's to him.
I don't think it will be enough to keep him after end of season, but even now it's down to PDC.

May be its time to give Rooonnneeeyyy another chance as he made a difference.Wasn't so impressed with Martin's contribution, don't understand when their right back had the ball in the corner why Martin could't stand off him, was so obvious that bundling him in the back would give away a free kick.

Evening,
I come bearing some excellent news, as we speak, PDC has a very important meeting planned and if my info is correct (as it has been all the way) I come bearing news that our take over is now going to be completed by Tuesday and some of the 3 players we had hoped to sign on Thursday should be available.
All I am saying, if you knew what I knew, you would hate Mr Black!

My view.
Fodders - excellent as usual
Macca - terrible at RB, better when he moved to LB
Ward - very solid
Flint - very solid
McEverley - not at his best, right decision to take him off, lacking match fitness.
Miller - not as good as Holland, done his best, but doesn't have the engine for 90 minutes
Ferry - plenty of energy, but struggled on a bog of a pitch
Roberts - really worked hard, but quite ineffective in the final third
De Vita - same as Roberts
Williams - poor
Collins - poor
Subs. Rooney did well, but lacks pace
martin, too little time to make an impression.
Thompson, why oh why did he not start, macca was shocking at RB and gave the penalty away. my MoM
Sure there will be fans that see it different, quite satisfied with the draw, but as per usual with all goalies that play against us Jones pulled off a couple of fantastic saves and without his saves it would have been 3 points for us.

Personally thought we were good in phases and the pitch was a shocker.
Same for both sides I know, but it made life difficult for our ball players.
Overall, draw a fair result. Thought both penalties were soft, but our softest.
Jay looked out of sorts, perhaps understandably and Nathan proved just how good he is when he came on.

Our post must have crossed, my thoughts are pretty similar to yours, the pitch was attrocious, both penalties were soft and I agree we were lucky to get ours, but that Adams guy for them did seem to go down very easily for theirs and IMO should have got a YELLOW for diving on more than one occassion and he was aggressive to Macca when he was called a ****, another ref could have given him a red. But in general thought the officials were fine although the ref was very lenient with their play acting (Evans training live on)
Still don't understand why Nathan didn't start, Jay isn't yet ready, no reason to change a solid back 4, pleased with Rooney, despite what other posters may say about him, I think that is 4 goals in 7 appearances, very good ratio in my book.
2 points from 2 games away from home is not great but could be worse, still unbeaten from 9 games, but on the plus side all of the other teams in contension except Bournemouth lost, so some ground has been made.
So important to get 3 points next Tuesday against Colchester to close the gap.

BIG shame other clubs don't share that view or passion. Orient and Crawley, both would be big time Charlie clubs yet they haven't got a good pitch unless its August or September, even then its down to luck.
Perhaps the vacillaters from the FL should be looking into the standard of pitches and grounds as opposed to dragging their feet over our change of ownership. Ahsoles.

My assumption is that Nathan must have been suffering from the virus hence only on the bench.
Wierdly I thought Macca played bettervat left back, however he is becoming increasingly maveric in his play.
Williams, Jay, Roberts all had average games but I put that down to the pitch and with Jay, that was heavy ground to test his knee on.
All in all, wanted a win but relieved with a draw.

Wiz, there seems to be a touch of bitterness about many of your posts lately. Have you such a short memory that you don't remember the awful surface we had at the County Ground for many years? In any case, football is a winter game in this country, and we have seen some cracking matches - particularly Cup ties on pitches far worse than Crawley's. Perhaps we have spent a lot more money on ours than Orient or Crawley they have on theirs. Does that give us any right to look down on them when we are deep in financial sh1t? And how do you know the Football League are dragging their feet over our change of ownership? Do you know what the process involves or how long it normally takes? How do you justify calling them @rseholes? The Football League has a duty to protect the game in general and individual clubs from unsuitable or unscrupulous would be owners. I find it hard to see why you would object to that, even if you have done your own due diligence on "Jed" (as you like to call him, while referring to the man who saved our club with millions of pounds as "Black") and given him the green light to proceed. You keep tossing these hand grenades in and your only rationale seems to be tribal and selfish sour grapes.

Two good examples of the latter involve the allowing of a horse show on a pitch a few days before a cup final to allow one of the biggest shocks of all time, and an over sanded pitch which produced a bobble for a sharp shooter to shin the ball over and miss out on promotion.
On that basis you could argue that was the condition of the pitch that has coloured the relative merits of two of the Town's managers.
I don't think that is sour grapes.

very good post, I can't think for the life of me why oi den has chosen to have a go at you for stating the obvious, there has been 3 of our games postponed away from home because none of them are capable of maintaining the state of their pitch, (I would also add it may be a coincidence, but all had injuries or players band which may have just made it easier for them not play their games).in my opinion they would never be able to participate at a higher level, regardless of how good their teams are today, the grounds are a disgrace, more the reason why we need to get out of this dreadful league.
By the way Den, I know you and LR usually like to have the last word and most times I don't have a problem with that because I do respect both your opinions. On this occassion with you I think you are totally out of order with your negative comments to Wiz, he has made a very valid point and I am totally in agreement with Wiz and very disappointed to read such negative views from you.

Still in a great position and fingers crossed we get the news we want on Tuesday an we go to the soulless bowl and get a win

Daily mirror suggests PDC for Huddersfield as second choice. Been suggested before and I think he'll take any Championship job and rightly so as he's earned a shot at a level up. He's being quiet now to not give the board anything to sack him with and avoid paying him off but if another job comes up I think he'll resign and take his full back room staff with him. His win percentage is excellent and although a bit of a risk - all new appointments carry a risk. He'd put extra bums on seats and add a bit of extra passion. Untenable he said.
I'm not sure how or if 'Untenable' applies to the new board.

Read this:
Swindon boss Paolo Di Canio said he was not immanently considering his future following his sides's 1-1 draw at Crawley.
The Italian had put his position in doubt the day before by issuing a statement criticising off-field events at the League One club.
Swindon avoided administration after agreeing a takeover by a local consortium earlier this week.
But because the deal has yet to be ratified, the Football League refused to let three players join and star winger Matt Ritchie to Bournemouth for £500,000 to raise funds.
When asked whether this would be the last interview he gave as Swindon chief the former West Ham ace replied: "I hope not. Tomorrow we work, Monday we work and Tuesday we play Colchester.
"We had a fantastic game, getting a good point, and had we won we would have been only two points away from the top two teams."
When pressed on whether he was immanently considering his future, Di Canio replied: "I'm focused on our next game."
Di Canio, who claimed in his statement on Friday that he felt his job "was not just impossible but untenable" refused to expand any further.
He added:"Today I'm not speaking about the statement. I'm only speaking
how proud I am of my players and how they came back."
A powerfully taken 59th minute penalty by substitute Adam Rooney extended the Robins unbeaten run to nine games after a spot kick by Billy Clarke had put Crawley ahead mid-way through the first half.
"This was a good point for us in another away game," the Italian added. "We had chances to win and came back strongly. It wasn't easy, my players game me everything and I'm more than pleased
I think your barking up the wrong tree....
I'm not saying he'll stay here till the end of his contract.
I am saying, he'll be here till the summer........
IMO

That said the pitch yesterday was awful and whilst it is the same for both teams it is a leveller. Town were prevented from playing their passing game but did well under the circumstances.
Club survival is paramount and retention of PDC is crucial.
I was shocked about the club's position earlier this week going from one of the wealthiest clubs in the league to possible administration. A mate was talking to Nick watkins after the game yesterday and said be calm be patient club should be sold Tuesday its been a horrible week.
I had thought about throwing my season ticket on the pitch this coming saturday but then I remembered I'm Swindon tillI die!!!!!

Den, No I'm not exactly bitter but if we can make the effort then surely other clubs should have some sort of moral obligation to do the same. Yes I agree sometimes the weather has influence, so does drainage, so do covers, so why spend a fortune pro rata on a side of players that you hope will get you somewhere, when they can't play because of the pitch.
We are now in 2013, this isn't post war Britain recovering from WW2 anymore. In the day and age of soil specialists, grass land research and several durable grass's available, drainage experts etc, etc. Why should football as a whole suffer in this day and age when it can do so much better.
As goes the FL, just read back on my posts all through the sale etc and I have been saying it will take as long as it takes. As goes the rest of it, compered to many I have been quite understanding, but on the nonsense of cancelled games, sorry but I don't see some other clubs making any effort, and its time it was sorted in a more uniform manner. Things need to be put in place now on a time scale agreed by the clubs at their yearly meeting. If they can agree rules around the wage fix at 60 & 65% or what ever they should also be looking at maintain fixtures to avoid fixture congestion. Its all about commitment and how much you want to be in the FL. Those clubs that can't/won't reach a minimum standard should be relegated down to a level where they fit in. There will be a queue of others baying to take their place.
That pitch last night was a disgrace and had a negative effect on the game.

Absolutely awful surface and they should spend some of their copious funds on the surface....although it seems to suit their playing style.

Black has now said he sanctioned the Ritchie sale,as I said Black is still in charge until the buyers are given clearance, they can't do nothing or say nothing until they have control,Black is so desperate to get out asap he will sell to anyone and is virtually giving our club away,so Paolo is left in limbo and feeling very let down, after speaking to one of our players yesterday after the match,he has told his players he is waiting to see how all this plays out before deciding his action,so Black has not caused a car crash,he has caused a multiple pile up and is the dangerous driver just wanting to race away at high speed!!!!!!!!!!!!
As for Andrew Black, this is the guy who saved Swindon a few years ago and has spent millions of pounds of his own money which he has now written off!! It has been well documented that he has lost hundreds of millions of pounds due to share values falling on the stock market in this recession, and so he has decided he wants out. Yes the timing is not good and if he could have waited until the end of the season then sold his shares in the club he would of come out of this looking a lot better...and that chairman he appointed has done him no favours.
Bottom line is we are a club with average home gates of under 9k so long term viability means we should operate within our financial constraints, something we have not been doing for several seasons now. When I first started watching the Town we were a mid table division 3 team but regularly had 15k home attendances, and our first season in division 2 1970\1971 our average home gates were about 22,000 I think? The people who ran the club in those days never had the foresight or ambition to bicycle on that and move the club forward, in fact what they did was pass ownership of the CG to the local council!
Lets wait and see what next week brings, if Paolo stays then brilliant but if we do get promoted we need things to change to be able to stay in the championship, we need people who care about football and Swindon and a proper and viable long term financial plan or else it will be continual boom and bust lurching up and down the leagues with the threat of Administration always there...it shouldn't and needn't be this way!

I'd even suggest that the old board knew that having to wait for FL clearance would mean that these transfers would not go through which they may have hoped would force PDC in to quitting. Otherwise Black could have made these transfers then 'sold' the club a week after with everyone happy. No one wants to sack him as it involves a big pay-out. Through his statement he's already said Phil met with the new board and they lied to him. If they did not they will be furious and if they did it explains why he is furious - either way this is more than just a bit of a flare up between a board and its manager. It's a tactical battle getting the fans on his side and not being pushed out while the board try and appear like they want him to stay in order to not lose the fans.

The 'board problem' is a bit more than that and people won't look at that as though he jumps ship at the first sign of trouble. Of course he's here to try and win things but with such an uncertain future if someone comes in for him now it may be in his interest to take them up on it. PDC and Phil know exactly what they are doing. I don't know exactly what but they are both intelligent men and are playing with the hand they have been dealt.
I'm not anti the new board or pro PDC but passing comment on what appears to be happening and keeping an objective view-point.

Re PDC, I have almost come to accept the worst is going to happen. Ultimately he's always been out for himself and getting promotions on his CV (not a criticism) so if Huddersfield or anyone come in then I'm sure he'll be off. Otherwise I'm sure he'll hear the new owners out but if they don't have the money/ambition to back him then I would think he'll take the opportunity to leave with his reputation at a high point.
Interesting comments from Black on twitter too. Suggests more to the story so just hope that we finally get the truth and clear communication once sale goes through. Sick of the cloak and dagger BS of recent times

That pitch last night was a disgrace and had a negative effect on the game.
....
Absolutely awful surface and they should spend some of their copious funds on the surface....although it seems to suit their playing style.
...
As per another post - Bury manage quite well so why Crawley can't I've no idea.
The frustrating thing was we were on TV and it would've been good to show the country our ability to play the beautiful game, but were denied by the Sunday League setup.

.
However as others have said it did prevent us from playing any sort of football in the centre - so basically took Ferry out the game
.
The match was more suited to Navarro who could have simply sat in there and help Miller (who has improved a lot in this aspect) win the loose balls
.
Rooney was fantastic yesterday as he simply put himself about and won balls up top!
.
That is why we came back into it
.
Williams never wins anything so not surprised there but both Collins (who is normally good at it) and Martin won nothing
.
Don't agree prefer games like this - mic prefer games where teams look to play football which is why watching us at home under PdC has been a pleasure for 90% of the time - only the injury crisis saw us go long
.
As for PdC he will not go Nywhere until the summer
.
If he was quitting he would have done it when Wray left of on Wed/Thurs
.
Why go elsewhere now - window is close and won't have a chance to stamp his mark
.
If he is "just looking for a championship job" he is much better off finishing the season here
.
Go up and his stock rises dramatically - don't go up and it was due to player sales and blokes incomings!
.
As for new owners I personally think they have been as screwed as much as PdC with the sales but are powerless to do anything yet

As for the Bournemouth fans coming on here they were cocky with saints fans when they were having a good season and then it blew up in their faces.
One player doesnt make it fall apart of all happen so they need to keep their mouth shut there is a long way to go yet and there will be freak results as all the top sides discovered yesterday and it will happen to all teams.
I still think Tranmere will fade away and cant see Brentford keeping it up either.
Bournemouth will lose a few as well they have some tough games in February.
As for us take draws away and win the home games we will be there or there abouts for automatic i think it has made the players more determined than ever and bear in mind yesterday we were playing on a really crap pitch was a disgrace plus 4 or 5 players had a virus.
PDC to stay until the summer at least and will go out on a high by getting us up to the next league.
As for the Pox fans they will just be a mid table team with Wilder and wont go anywhere. There crowds are going down and the squad is small.
They need to look over their shoulder as trouble is ahead for them and they can get as cocky as they like on here but we all know they are jealous of us always have been as their forum is constantly talking about us its their obsession and jealousy of a superior club.

PDC will now be more active and more open to other positions that previously may not have been of interest to him. A big move yes but a sideways move would not have been considered until now. With the board not able to pay him off this is pretty clearly a game of cat and mouse. Make things difficult and force him to resign. He used words such as 'untenable' which he may now well regret as he is still here (for now). While currently making it clear to all and sundry he is ready to 'move on' those clubs potentially interested just need to give Phil a call. You don't accuse a new board of going behind your back if you plan on building a new relationship with them and you don't go behind your manager's back if you are planning to start a relationship with him. It's all politics now and both sides are essentially kissing babies trying to keep the fans on their side. PDC is firmly going to win this race as the others cannot really talk at present. Why else would he release the statement - he could have just had a wait and see policy rather than teasing he may leave to alert other clubs and win the fans over. He could have said ' I did not want to sell Matt Richie and did not sanction the sale'. That would have been enough and said a lot more with fewer words. We know no more from his long statement than we would have with the one above. If anything it has just confused everyone further and prompted the inevitable barrage of questions aimed at him which he now wishes not to answer.
In terms of the new board, I find it hard to believe they will be any where near as wealthy as the last board and even if they did have lots of money they should have learned by the previous example that throwing money around doesn't always give you what you want unless they want a mess like this. It's hard for a board to please fans. Look after the pennies and they are seen as unambitious but in contrast if they throw it around then usually it doesn't benefit the club in the long term. The new board will hopefully look at the income and try and stick within the wage budget and develop from the ground up with sensible salaries for players.

Come off it guys Den wasn't so far off beam - there's guys saying we would have won the game on a better pitch so how come Orient won at our place on a near perfect pitch? Also this idealistic notion that all pitches should meet a certain standard criteria is farcical. If that was the case half the pitches in the lower leagues would be vetoed and some in the Prem. People need to think outside the box sometimes- doesn't geographical location play a part? I'll bet the south east gets more inches of rain per annum than the Swindon area most years and that's from just noting weather patterns. Yes measures can be taken to improve and protect playing surfaces but that costs money that smaller clubs don't have.
All Town fans are currently worked up about survival and rightly so but I'd bet a pound to a pinch of sh!t they'd all settle for a pudding of a pitch if it meant the club stayed in business.
Yes, survival of the club is paramount and always will be.
No, in this day and age all clubs no matter where their location, should be in the position where they can provide a "decent playing" surface. As said previously by another poster Bury in the Greater Manchester area where they suffer more rainfall than elsewhere in the UK, even Fleetwood last week, can do so then why not others. We are in 2013, and the technology is there. If clubs aspire to the dizzy heights on the top 4 divisions of English football then surely if the stands and so on have to be of a standard then just as importantly so should the pitch.
This is a matter of getting your house in order. Why spend a fortune( pro rata) on players and promotions to get into the league when your pitch is a tip, it doesn't make sense. The result is not only boring football on a sand pit, but also fixture congestion, which really is my main concern. Good clubs try to make the effort, the cowboy element who are not serious about progression it seems don't see it as a priority when it should be. It kills the game and the supporters chances of seeing decent games where players can use their skills, and provide the viewing public with something decent as opposed to something woeful. Its a point of view, but I do think some clubs need to revise their policy on grounds men and the like. Cassidy is brilliant, as are the gang of supporter/volunteers that help him. They are often our twelfth man in providing an excellent surface on which the game is played, and long may they continue to do so.
Some clubs it seems have done little or nothing as they are not prepared to spend the money, cancelled games stops cash flow so how short sighted are they.

As for the attendances being affected by PdC going, I doubt it. There's nearly 5500 season ticket holders and probably 2000 pay on the days, the majority will be there, The attendances this season are level with our last season in div 1, so PDC has not made any real difference to the gates, and we are having a successful season this time around.
We will find out in the next couple of weeks how this is going to play out, for a start, we will see if the 3 new loanees come in, if they do I have a feeling PdC will stay to the end of the season, if not he will probably walk.

I do think both he and Phil Spencer need to sit down with the new guys and be more realistic with budgets etc so we don't all go through this "horibilis" again. thats not a swipe or cheap remark, but we need some tight guidelines that safe guard the club, management and players. Constructive budgets for next season need to be put in place before the end of April at the latest so floundering mid season doesn't happen again.

Crap Pitch yesterday i agree but after supporting Swindon for so long especially around the Macari era it wasn't a surprise i have been around the country supporting us and believe me i have witnessed much worse and many times, don't buy into the Crawley hasn't tried or that they may of planned it to be this way, they have had to postpone other matches prior to our visit but i would of thought that they were fully aware how to use it to there advantage, who wouldn't?
Lastly just because one part of the country receives more rain/floods etc doesn't mean anything, lots of reason`s like the type of grass, the water table and even the angle that that pitch sits may affect how and why some pitches are better than others and lets not forget Crawley are only in there second season in the football league so could possibly of neglected the costs of a top quality pitch/groundsman and concentrated more on players etc.

Lets hope this fiasco gets sorted out next week and everyone pulls together the board-fans-players and we got what we deserve and what Paolo and the players deserve after all their hard work promotion to the championship.
Onwards and upwards for all of us.
I truly hope this new lot coming in are honourable people weve had enough dodgy people and mismanagement of our club over the years and we as fans deserve some stability in our club we can keep going along like a yo yo as it seems every 3-5 years something blows up in our faces.
I seriously believe we will get treated like Luton if we ever go into A again who i think had something like 32 points deducted and Leeds were 21 points i think. But we cant think like that as we have to believe the FL will sanction everything this week for the new consortium. My only worry is who they are and are they honourable.
I would imagine they have been looking at all the things written on here but when you have been kept in the dark like us and the way we and the players and manager have been treated what do they expect with some of the comments.
Black has alot to answer for for what he has done in the last few weeks as much as he has backed the club up to then and we should have been made aware alot soooner of what was going on. But the current silence now is eerie to say the least.

As goes to them being in their second season, agreed, but the FL should now revise their viewpoint and as well as the rest of the ground meeting a set down criteria, so must the pitch. Drainage should be paramount and a preferred standard of soil and sub strata and a certain turf/grass should also be in place. All this fixture congestion does nothing for the cash flow of clubs as postponed games then played on a Tuesday night brings in less revenue and so a viscous circle of funding starts. In this day and age when the weather has always been as it is in this country and now with the global warming issues and changing weather patterns absolutely highlight the reason as to why things need to be put in place before the problem gets worse which it will. I'm not having a "pop at Crawley" or any other club, but remember Stockport and few seasons back when the mud pile caused the game to be cancelled just before kick-off after the traveling supporters, us, had arrived. Yes I know they ground share with a rugby league side, so even greater reason for finite pitch care.

Just read on sky sports news saying that Huddersfield are keeping an eye on Paolo to fill the vacant position there.
We are in 2013 and its time some clubs woke up and did something constructive for the greater good. They spend of players willingly, how about spending on the pitch to realise the best from those players.

For those moaning about the pitch yesterday if all games were played on bowling greens then we might as well play the games on paper.I for one would rather watch a game like yesterday than any premier match anyday of the week.I thought it was great when the CT keeper lost his boot and expected the ref to stop the game ah "modern boots for you"

It was shameful in the least - I know we're lucky to have great groundsman and excellent drainage but surely Crawley with all their money could have laid a few drainage pipes leading out into the dead ground behind their smaller side-stand....there'
s a big enough hole for the water!....mid you they spend so much on footballs that go over there they have to be rich! :-)
If it were at any other time, they probably would have postponed it as the conditions didn't exactly favour them either.
Add to that the Sky billing and their three weeks lay off and they had a lot to lose.
Plus, as I recall last year when we played on wet pitches following snow, it affected ours for the league run in.

I always judge a player on what I have seen at the CG and have felt for a while that he has been not been given a chance (Caddis factor). He has a decent strike ration (4 in what works out to be 6 1/2 matches), won the penalty, scored it and was bl00dy close to winning it for us, that was a class header yesterday.
I would like to see more but I thought he did a very decent job for us yesterday. It was also good to hear the "Rooney, Rooney" chant form the Town fans, so much better than moans.
We are currently down to bare bones, only 6 subs, so every player is valuable and needs to be encouraged.

Thought Paolo was excellent in front of the cameras yesterday, despite Sky Sports trying their best to goad him into revealing he was resigning. Thought Wilson was fair in his comments too after their well documented issues. Pitch was poor but we encounter them every year, so need a plan B (go direct, big target man, rest Ferry). Adam Rooney looked good I thought, he deseres a start on Tuesday. Wlliams, Martin and Collins have now had a couple of poor games, so with BWP possibly in, you never know Adam Rooney could have his chance, particularly away from home.
Clearly Paolo's decision all hinges on the FL approval, and if he can get the 3 players in on loan. Lets hope we hear by Tuesday.
WIll be interested in Black's version of events, from his tweets it sounds like he is taking all the stick and a lot of abuse, but has a side to the stary which he will be revealing after the takeover is complete. That will be worth hearing. Presumably this will involve justifying his decision to sell in a panic, and may have something to say about Paolo or the existing board.
As for players reading this board, I hope they do. It's very simple - play well, get stuck in, win the game and enjoy the praise.

It's time for the players to really stand up and be counted, to play for the badge and their own pride whatever happens next week.
If we get the loan players in next week no one will stop us, even without them I think we have a strong enough squad
For a top 2 finish.
As for Saturday I thought Flint was outstanding and although some had a go at him, Roberts had a decent 2nd half. The plus point was Rooneys performance coming off the bench, looks better than Martin and looks likely to poach a goal.

Amazing how all the results went our way yesterday:
.
Tranmere - looking like they're running out of steam and possibly even self-belief
.
Doncaster - still surprised at their form but they could be the biggest challenge but be interesting to see how they get on after a few bad results
.
Bournemouth - the most respected of the other sides (and manager) at the top and I'd suggest are our main title contenders
.
Swindon - PDC express keeps getting hit by bad coal but I think we'll see full steam again very shortly - can't wait until Tuesday as hoping to get there for this one
.
Brentford - just get the impression they are starting to struggle with fixture build up and getting distracted by their F.A. Cup heroics
.
Sheff Utd - Be interesting to see if Wilson can turn this dip in form around - I very much doubt it having lost their top scorer
.
MK Dons - Won't handle the fixture pile up, tough February: 4 away league games and a winnable F.A. Cup 5th Rd tie.
Coventry and Walsall may sneak into the play-offs but have played a lot of games to date....would bet on Yeovil above these two.

New board want PDC out. It's obvious. PDC making it hard for them. No way this will all blow over and everyone be friends. He will bide his time and when the right move is there he will go unless sacked before. Board know they can't compete with him on popularity so not being able to talk at the moment suits them. PDC said enough in his statement so don't expect too much more in the next few days unless its to announce departure although I'd imagine this wont happen until we have the week with no fixtures.
Paolo has unfinished business at Swindon and will want to finish what he started (if possible) because that is the sort of guy he is, and if he resigns from a managers job every time there is board problem etc then he may as well forget about a future in Management, he is a very intelligent man and will realise this.
I think he is now waiting to see if the new people are approved and if so will the 3 players then join us next weekend? If the answer to these 2 questions is yes then why would he leave? He will then try and finish what he started and get us promoted into the Championship...I guess if he achieved that he would have a string of big clubs vying for his signature!
But if the new people are just chancers and they are not approved which means the 3 players will not be joining us...hence almost certain Administration; then he will quit and our season will be over and our long term future will be under severe threat!!! Fingers crossed or a good outcome next week.
Finally...please ignore that Poxford fool MM as some of you are just feeding him what he wants!
----
Actually, being honest I came to agree the moment they posted it but thought I'd just make something up as well.
----
The statement:
"He will bide his time and when the right move is there he will go unless sacked before."
......that applies to every manager in the game doesn't it?....I'll bet a pound that he does decide to leave before he gets sacked....oh and that is Sir Alex I'm talking about....oh hang nope it's errr - well any of them.
....
What tosh!
And I think you'll find most managers under pressure are sacked before they move on or are forced in to saying it was a mutual agreement. My point is wasted on you.

You say I made negative comments in response to a valid points raised by Wiz. On the contrary, Wiz has made several derogatory (i.e negative) comments recently about other football clubs and the Football League, and I was trying to point out that, far from having any basis in fact, that they were simply the result of his undoubted passion for STFC.

Some of the difference between Wiz and me is simply a matter of opinion. He thinks the state of the pitch at Crawley was a big deal. I don't. I (like Wiz, I think) wasn't there, so I can't really say much about its condition. From the TV pictures, there certainly seemed to be a few bobbles, but the pitch didn't prevent Crawley producing a fast break from the back - all along the ground - in the first decent move of the game, from which they eventually scored. Nor did it stop De Vita and McCormack from linking brilliantly with some superb footwork to give Williams (I think) the headed chance that brought a fantastic save out of the Crawley keeper.
.
To be quite honest, I think both teams used the pitch as an excuse for what was essentially a poor game of football. I don't think either side actually tried to play much, which brings me on to another point: this myth that we are a wonderful footballing side who suffer more than most on a difficult surface. We are now a strong physical outfit who can look after ourselves and cope well with any pitch and conditions. We do not play a wonderful passing game. PDC publicly abandoned that earlier in the season when he said we would now "be playing a more direct game by knocking balls into the channels. For a few weeks after that, the football we played was some of the worst I have seen from a Town team. Thankfully, that extreme seems to have passed and we now mix it up a lot more. The rest of Wiz's argument - and I know it's not just him - is an insult to our fellow clubs. How would we feel if we were accused of cheating? I think we know the answer to that, as it happened only last week. We were outraged. How would we feel if we had gone to the trouble of printing programmes, organising staff resources, ordering in food etc, only to find that our efforts had been thwarted by the weather - and then having salt rubbed into the wounds by being told that we didn't really want to play anyway and had cheated our way to getting the game postponed? It seems that our rivals are cheats if their pitch is unplayable and the game is postponed, and if they do manage to get a doubtful game played they are either cheats or incompetents because their pitch is not up to scratch.

They know how their pitch reacts to rainfall, their problem, they should deal with it.
I find it strange that in this day and age of regulation there seems to be little legislation by the FL to ensure that pitches are adequately drained etc. Snow I can sympathise with as it is so random, but our main man showed what can be done if you ask for help. Oxford did nothing, match postponed, it reflects ambition and desire of the people trying to drive the club forwards, and supporters will help.
I'm not on a one man crusade or anything like that, but I am frankly amazed some clubs do so little while others do a lot. I received both sides of the argument here, but I think some can see that I am trying to be constructive and asking why ???? some clubs are not doing more and they should be. Its Sunday, its late, but its been a healthy debate. lets just hope this week sees a new dawn for our club, and our progress continues, and I hope something comes up that we can mutually agree on and laugh over. Cheers.

And I think you'll find most managers under pressure are sacked before they move on or are forced in to saying it was a mutual agreement. My point is wasted on you.

Also hypocrisy is sometimes rife on here and Lydiard makes an excellent point ala "Wizards tone changed (or what Den has called bitterness if you like) when the Di Canio debates were going on weeks ago." Totally agree and I did ask Wiz then why he had such a downer on Pdc -or Canioman or our manager as Wiz likes to call him lol! I believe one of his gripes was that he didn't like Paolo bawling out players in public and yet today we read on this very forum from Wizard - " I'm quite prepared to put up with him berating players if that is what it takes. Now if that isnt pot kettle and black I don't know what is.
You bring this up more times than the pendulum swings in a year. I have always said that I don't agree with the public berating of players. Lets get that straight, I have never denied that, BUT MANY OTHERS HAVE SAID THE SAME, so go pick on a few of those as well eh? lets see you start poping at them as well.
A complete NO, I have never said that I want him to go either, and if tollerating him doing his name/shame/blame thing is key to him staying then I have no problem with that, as you would never ever let that go, would you. You would love to blame somebody for that, but how about shifting the focus to your continuous downer on both Williams and Collins, "the WC two/the WC pair" as you have called them, and the fact you wanted them flushed out of the club, but you stand and applaud their goals, hypocrite ?????

It seems that other clubs love to dish out ridicule towards us, BUT, how many come here and play on a mud pool. They don't. Our pitch is well maintained, well drained and treated well by ground staff who probably put the pitch as a big first in their life. Even after the snow, it was such a perfect surface. Wilson and our manager now have both stated how important the playing surface is and conjusive it is for playing good football.
Ahsoles.
very good post, I can't think for the life of me why oi den has chosen to have a go at you for stating the obvious, there has been 3 of our games postponed away from home because none of them are capable of maintaining the state of their pitch, (I would also add it may be a coincidence, but all had injuries or players band which may have just made it easier for them not play their games).in my opinion they would never be able to participate at a higher level, regardless of how good their teams are today, the grounds are a disgrace, more the reason why we need to get out of this dreadful league.
I think you owe him a big apology, because nothing you have said makes sense other than reasons you only know why have a go at a very valid point raised by a respected poster. Doh!
.
You say I made negative comments in response to a valid points raised by Wiz. On the contrary, Wiz has made several derogatory (i.e negative) comments recently about other football clubs and the Football League, and I was trying to point out that, far from having any basis in fact, that they were simply the result of his undoubted passion for STFC.
.
So that's the opinion based difference.
.
The rest of Wiz's argument - and I know it's not just him - is an insult to our fellow clubs. I believe it is a terrible slur to accuse clubs of cheating by manipulating their fixture lists, or of being unconcerned about the state of their pitches. It seems that our rivals are cheats if their pitch is unplayable and the game is postponed, and if they do manage to get a doubtful game played they are either cheats or incompetents because their pitch is not up to scratch.
.
Our game is wonderful because it is at the mercy of many unpredictable elements. Let's abandon the search for perfect pitches, perfect referees and perfectly sanitised stadia, and enjoy the marvellous unpredictability of our fantastic winter game - or watch the Premier League on television.

Did I miss anything out, and oh yes, I must admit after seeing the TV, I though both penalties were soft, but even at my best I couldn't have played as well as either of our forwards yesterday, even in my prime, like you, a long time ago, lol.

Den, You have your opinion on this and I have mine, no apologies needed. I haven't deliberately set out to cross swords with you, but I still think some clubs, not all, could do a lot more. The fact that they haven't leaves them open. It is however strange that L.O got our match postponed, it continued to rain and the next game was on, but their injured players were back. call it speculation, co-incidence or act of God. That said L.O have been in the league for years and as such it should be expected for them to be able to deal with this sort of situation.
Cheers.
