ANGLING: Carp keep biting for Ogbourne

PAUL Ogbourne bagged 12 carp to land an impressive victory at the Ivy House Saturday Open.

The dozen-strong haul contributed to a bumper total weight of 72lb 4oz, more than double that of closest rival John Williams, with Chris Rust completing the top three.

Williams only had to wait 24 hours to go one better when he won the first round of Ivy House club matches for 2013, topping the 30lb-mark for the second successive day to finish ahead of Gary Davis, who was consoled with the prize for silvers winner.

Swindon’s Chris Telling was pipped for top spot at Sunday’s Bob Warden Memorial Open fished on the Kennet & Avon Canal from Darlington Wharf to The George at Bathampton.

Telling landed 5lb 13oz of roach and perch, to finish just behind Steve Hutchinson, of Sensas Wilts Angling, who triumphed with 6lb 9oz of roach, and skimmers.

After recent cancellations of Calne matches, the Air Ambulance Open match was fished at Hazeland on Sunday where Simon Fear, of Calne, was a convincing winner with 10 lb 4 oz of chub.

Brian Pallet, from Newbury, was runner up with 6 lb 6 oz of chub, followed by Trevor Payne, from Corsham, with 6 lb 2 oz of chub.

Fred Brown’s haul of 84lb 7oz was enough to take first prize at Sunday’s Roaming Rods match at Rolf’s Lake.

Brown caught on the straight lead with maggot to finish clear of Dave Simpkins and Terry Arnold and the rest of an 18-strong field.
