HELLENIC LEAGUE: Shrivenham snap up trio

Swindon Advertiser: Shrivenham boss Mark Stevens Shrivenham boss Mark Stevens

SHRIVENHAM manager Mark Stevens has made a triple transfer swoop as he bids to reignite his team’s difficult Hellenic Premier campaign.

The Barrington Park side have not won in the league since August 27 and have been without a game of any sort for the last month.

Sitting bottom of the table having shipped 27 goals in the last five games, Shrivvy need wins fast and Stevens is hopeful that the signings of Josh Fowler, Nathan Hawkins and Leigh Brown can spur his side into action.

Fowler has returned to the club on loan from Supermarine while 19-year-old Hawkins has come in from Cirencester and Brown has arrived from Purton.

“It’s a difficult time of the year to be signing players who will commit till the end of the season,” said Stevens.

“These players haven’t been around during the bad spell and will give the whole place a lift.

“There’s no guarantees (of 90 minutes every week) and they all know that, but I think they will all be part of the first-team setup.

“It’s a young team and I will give them the chance to prove themselves.”

Shrivenham are due to travel to high-flying Slimbridge in the Hellenic Premier tonight but Stevens is not positive on the game’s prospects of going ahead.

“I haven’t spoken to Slimbridge but I’d imagine it’s highly unlikely. I’m hoping it’s going to be on but I can’t say I’m that confident,” he said.

“It’s frustrating and it’s going to hurt us.

“We’ve had a few seasons like this but you normally get a month of hard frost in January or February, but this time it’s a combination of the two.”

Tonight’s game will go ahead subject to a 1pm pitch inspection.

In Division One South & West, Cirencester are scheduled to take on Mangotsfield at the Corinium.
