SWINDON Town have released a statement reacting to Paolo Di Canio's announcement that he has resigned as manager of Swindon Town.

The statement reads: "The Board are disappointed that Paolo Di Canio has made the decision to resign at such a critical time for Swindon Town Football Club.

"We are also disappointed that the sale of the Club has yet to be approved, but we hope the outstanding issues with the Football League will be resolved within a short period of time.

"It is worth noting that Matt Ritchie was sold due to the tremendous financial pressure the Club is facing and in order to continue operating whilst the sale of the Club went through. We understand the prospective new owners had reached agreement with Paolo Di Canio on bringing in loan players to strengthen the squad for a final push for the Championship.

"Until the situation has been resolved, Fabrizio Piccareta will be in temporary charge of the team as we travel to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow, where a win would see Swindon become leaders of League One. The Board shares the fans' tremendous frustration at the events of the last few weeks and is determined to resolve these issues to ensure the best outcome for the Club."

Will miss Paolo. He's been great, really great. But he's jumped the gun on this - that's the Paolo way!
Perspective needed - we are TOP OF THE LEAGUE if we win tomorrow, we've got a great squad.
Sorry, I don't want to run down all the great stuff Paolo had done, but he's had a budget most managers would dream of, and he's left us high and dry because the money's dried up without giving the new board a chance. And that's football, the money drying up!
We'll be fine.

Paulo could be back when he coooooools!!!!

I have read Paulos history on sky and It does not paint a very good CV for other clus as he has a history of being naughty!!

I suppose he has enough money to retire and take a nice sunny vacation.

Who's to say that Piccareta wasn't the main tactician, Di Canio wouldn't have brought him if he wasn't able to rely on him. Good luck for tomorrow lads, lets go top! We are all Swindon fans, players and managers always move on... He may do a u-turn! Get behind the lads as only Di Canio can decide on his future.

This is a non-statement yet again making excuses about something we already know about, to cover for the fact they basically treated him like sh** and effectively forced his decision.
Personally, i think he was RIGHT to go as there is no way i would work for employers that treated me in such a way!
This new board has got a mountain to climb, not just to replace a manager who has a bigger passion for the club than the entire boards bank account, but also to regain the trust and faith of the fans! So many of the fickle fans we've had over the years, have just started returning to the club, mainly due to Paolo and the success he has brought. Failure to continue this success to a reasonable level, will see those fans heading straight back under their rocks.
Good luck Jed, because you're gonna need some balls to get out of this situation with your head held high. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole takeover fell through, given that since it was apparently 'sealed', the clubs two highest profile assets have left the club.

You can still swallow your pride Paolo - would take a big man to do this . Admit you may have dropped off here. Give the new owners a chance.

They can get their men in, but watch the gates drop next season if we don't go up. The gates reflect S/Ts whether they attend or not, as the seat has been sold in advance. Unless it is somebody dymamic the gates will be down at least 2/3000 as many will feel sullied and cheated. Jeds smiles could soon desert him if he doesn't get into gear a bit quick. I can see PDC going back to Italy for a rest.

Yes 'Board' I get why Ritchie was sold, but why did the 'Board' tell Spencer / Paolo he wouldn't be sold then lo and behold an hour or later he was sold. Lets have an official statement from the 'Board' on that b*lls up, because that is the breach of trust that has led to the untenable situation.

And who is the 'Board' who has made this statement is it Watkins or Black or Patey, identify yourselves!

All very sad but surely Paolos gripes were with the old board, so why walk now with (hopefully) the new board about to take over.
As I have said before it was Paolo that wasted a lot of the dosh that helped us get into this mess and feel that he should stay to at least see the season out.

Agree with chippy on this one. I understand the selling of one of our players to 'keep the ship afloat', but not to inform PdC about the sale until ratified is treachery.

Maybe Paolo did a bit of his own due diligence on the history of how this club has been run.Betting scandals,match fixing,dodgy accounting and lying to the manager-the sale of Ritchie-this being the penultimate ships rivet in the coffin.The final one may be the fact that he has looked at the shower that intends to take the helm of our club and quite rightly has jumped ship before the S.S STFC sinks without a trace.I hope I am sooo wrong but in all honesty the whole place needs flushing through. I do not think for one minute Jed and the team of chancers are going to be any different..

The old debts keep coming back to haunt this club, one word Transparency. I am glad we didn't go under (again). However, the new owners are little more than a collective of what one person described as a bunch of pub landlords, no disrespect intended to the vital job landlords do, but there is no real money there, it is Michael Knighton and Mufc all over. The club needs a lot of resource to invest sadly I don't see that and neither did Paolo.
