TOMMY Miller and Darren Ward will take charge of first-team affairs at the County Ground for the weekend visit of Preston, Swindon Town have confirmed.

Following the resignation of Paolo Di Canio and his backroom staff this week, the senior pros in the Town ranks have been asked to assume control while a new manager is sought.

A statement released by the Robins this evening said Miller and Ward will be placed "in temporary charge" of the club.

It read: "Swindon Town Football Club have today placed Tommy Miller and Darren Ward in temporary charge of first team affairs.

"The pair, who have the full support of the first team squad, have been consistent performers for Town this season and have the combined experience of around 1,000 professional games.

"Miller joined the club in the summer of 2012 from Huddersfield Town whilst Ward signed a permanent deal in the January 2013 transfer window from Championship side Millwall.

"A goalkeeping coach and fitness coach will be brought in to assist the duo on a temporary basis.

"This initiative has the full support of the prospective new owners, allowing them the opportunity to assess all of the applications that have been received in relation to the vacant managerial position and take a considered view for the long-term benefit of the Club.

Ward took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to pledge his commitment to the role.
