FRASER Digby has branded new Swindon chairman Jed McCrory a "football man".

Digby, who has been appointed by McCrory as interim goalkeeping coach following the departure of Paolo Di Canio and his backroom team this week, thinks the Banbury United owner will put his heart into the project at the County Ground.

“I do know Jed, who’s one of the consortium, and he is a very grass roots man," he said. "He’s a football man, he loves his football and he wants the football club to flourish.

“He’s take it over with the team in a great place in the league.

Digby has no idea how long his services will be required by the Robins, but right now he is only concentrating on the weekend clash with Preston. And he can't wait to take strides onto the hallowed turf at SN1 once more.

“I don’t really look to the future, I look to the next game. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I wanted to come back in to help however I can," he said.

“I think one of the reasons they asked me to come back is my affinity with the fans. I’ve got a great relationship with the fans, my Twitter account has been going crazy over the last day or so.

“The whole point about this is not to have any more upheaval than we need to.

“It’s a difficult one. For all of what Paolo’s about, and he brought a lot of passion to the club, there were a lot of things from a football point of view I didn’t like, a lot of antics I didn’t like.

“It’s got everyone up, we’re at the top of the league and credit to the lads - there’s been a lot of upheaval for them but they’ve produced."
