SWINDON TOWN: Digby backs "football man" McCrory

Fraser Digby in action for Swindon during his playing days
FRASER Digby has branded new Swindon chairman Jed McCrory a "football man".
Digby, who has been appointed by McCrory as interim goalkeeping coach following the departure of Paolo Di Canio and his backroom team this week, thinks the Banbury United owner will put his heart into the project at the County Ground.
“I do know Jed, who’s one of the consortium, and he is a very grass roots man," he said. "He’s a football man, he loves his football and he wants the football club to flourish.
“He’s take it over with the team in a great place in the league.
Digby has no idea how long his services will be required by the Robins, but right now he is only concentrating on the weekend clash with Preston. And he can't wait to take strides onto the hallowed turf at SN1 once more.
“I don’t really look to the future, I look to the next game. You don’t know what’s going to happen. I wanted to come back in to help however I can," he said.
“I think one of the reasons they asked me to come back is my affinity with the fans. I’ve got a great relationship with the fans, my Twitter account has been going crazy over the last day or so.
“The whole point about this is not to have any more upheaval than we need to.
“It’s a difficult one. For all of what Paolo’s about, and he brought a lot of passion to the club, there were a lot of things from a football point of view I didn’t like, a lot of antics I didn’t like.
“It’s got everyone up, we’re at the top of the league and credit to the lads - there’s been a lot of upheaval for them but they’ve produced."

I for one feel we need to move on from PDC and build slowly and surely. Consolidate and live within our means. The most important area that needs development is the off field side. This like other clubs would lead to a more sustainable club with earnings being made 365 days a year rather than 30 days. Perhaps the Council can offer to sell the CG at an reasonable price so that the club can move forward. After all we are sitting tenants and who would rent the ground if we moved out? Just look at the help Portsmouth Council are giving PFC, why cannot Swindon do the same. After all they have been paid handsomely over the years.

Now one more thing to sort out please and this is aimed at Sam and colleagues can you stop referring to OUR ground as SN1 it is the County Ground and has been for as many years as i have been going,i am not generally a knocker of Sam or the Adver team but when i read Fraser is looking forward to stepping out onto the "hallowed turf at SN1 once more" i find it slightly disrespectful to STFC and a little annoying. Sam your heart was captured by Swindon Town and the County Ground not SN1 which is a postcode and not just our clubs but the surrounding area.
