SWINDON College Old Boys’ season will come down to a make or break 80 minutes tomorrow as they face Chipping Norton at Pipers Way.

Old Boys are five points behind their second-placed rivals in the Berks/Bucks & Oxon Premier with the top two in the division going up.

And manager Martin Peaple says the club are desperate for promotion to one of the two Southern Counties leagues, the standard they last played at in the mid-noughties.

“Second place is there for the taking,” he said.

“Everybody’s right up for it because we’ve have a couple of seasons knocking on the door and now we’re there again.

“We’ve improved year on year and we have a very good squad, and we want to get back into the Southern Counties.”

Old Boys have double reason for motivation this weekend as Chipping Norton were the team that fought back from a significant deficit against them to triumph early in the campaign.

“The team this Saturday is as good as the team as we sent up to Chipping Norton at the start of the season,” added Peaple.

“We were 18-0 at half-time and managed to lose by the end of the game.

“That’s the kind of slip we can’t afford to make on Saturday. This is a must-win game.

“They are the team we need to overhaul and we have to swap round the result we had there.

“If they beat us up there we don’t mind, as long as we beat them down here and get the bonus point.”

Centre Stu Knight is back in the reckoning after several months away as he has no RAF commitments this weekend.

Meanwhile, Swindon forward Paul Daniels says the Greenbridge Road are hopeful of maintaining their strong home form in the Wiltshire derby with Salisbury this weekend.

He said: “We’ve been good at home this year and hopefully that will be the same again on Saturday and we will set the tempo “When we play teams like Salisbury and Witney there’s never much in it, it’s all on the day.

“We’re definitely confident having won three in a row away from home, although Salisbury have had some good results as well recently.

“But we’ve got a really strong squad this season and have players like Steve Tait who do the dirty work in week in, week out.”

In Southern Counties South, lowly Supermarine face Weymouth at home, while Wootton Bassett have no league game.

Lower down the ladder in Dorset & Wilts 2 North, Cricklade entertain Wootton Bassett 2nds and fairford visit Supermarine 2nds.
