That's it for us folks. A 1-1 draw sees Swindon drop to second in League One, but after the few weeks the club has had we can hardly complain.

We're back on Tuesday for the visit of Bury, until then goodnight.

5:53pm

Alan McCormack has been explaining what happened to make Paolo Di Canio strip him of the captaincy last week.

"I was ill on Friday, I got sent home half way though the session and woke up Saturday even worse," he said.

Alan McCormack believes Town's star players will not leave the club as long as Di Canio is around

ALAN MCCORMACK & PAOLO DI CANIO

"I asked the physio to go to see the doctor, went into the walk-in in Swindon hoping I'd only be in there half an hour and ended up being in there two hours.

"The manager wasn't too happy and he thought I'd just take a day off because I had a tickle in my throat. I never got to tell my side of the story.

"I can only praise the lads for being around and sticking by me the last few days."

5:51pm

McCormack on Jamie Pitman: "Jamie was brilliant before the game, he had information on all their players and he's been there and been in the dug-out managing the team."

5:49pm

Swindon captain Alan McCormack has praised his teammates for the way they have dealt with the recent turbulence at the County Ground.

"It's not a bad result. There are positives. You can look back on this week and say everything was there to win the game but it's never easy to come into it after the week we've had," he said.

Town's new signing Alan McCormack at the clubs Open Day

ALAN MCCORMACK

"It does take its toll mentally but the lads showed today they are never going to give up on anything. Anything that anyone throws at us we're going to fight it.

"I think the lads have done extremely well given the week we've had."

5:45pm

McEveley on Ward and Miller: "They've handled it very well. It's been hectic for them every day trying to sort things out and they've been trying to prepare themselves for the game."

5:45pm

Jay McEveley thinks Town have dropped two points today.

"The pressure we put on them meant we were on top for most of the game. I think Wes was very quiet. We created chances but we couldn't seem to put the ball in the back of the net," he said.

Jay doesn't need a medal

JAY MCEVELEY

"We're on top we've just got to learn to be more clinical and take our chances a bit better. We'll keep fighting, we'll never give up.

"You look at the teamsheet or you look in training and it does look light compared to what we have had.

Williams very very poor today. I would have chucked Thompson on at right back and moved Macca in the middle instead of Navaro.

Too much hoof ball

5:31pm

Adam Rooney has been asked what has changed now Darren Ward and Tommy Miller are in charge.

He said: "Nothing has changed. The two lads are very professional. We've worked hard all season and we're just going to do that. We don't want to ease off.

"They're really professional so all the lads have plenty of respect for them.

"We've great respect for them as players and leaders on the pitch."

5:30pm

Adam Rooney is now talking to the media about his goal within a minute of coming off the bench.

"When you've just come on you want to get involved as much as you can. I was happy for it to come right to me and I was happy to put it away.

Swindon Town's Adam Rooney in action at Colchester last night

ADAM ROONEY

"It's difficult when you're not on the pitch but we were going through a spell where the team was doing very well. The main thing is to keep your head up.

"The fans were brilliant day and we really appreciate that."

5:25pm

Tommy Miller talks about Simon Ferry's injury.

He said: "He's struggled with his ankle. He didn't do any training for a couple of days but he is struggling with that."

5:25pm

Tommy Miller and Darren Ward's first tactical substitution, the introduction of Adam Rooney, resulted in a goal in under a minute.

"Obviously the substitutions are vital. It was a joint decision of who was going to come on. We made that decision as the game was going," Miller said.

"He came on and got the goal which is superb. All season he has been out of the team, he wants to play every week, he's a great trainer and it's hard.

Swindon Town striker Adam Rooney

ADAM ROONEY

"Beforehand we still had a little bit to do, one or two things to finalise. We got that out the way and we have to thank Jamie Pitman - he was fantastic and gave us a few words of advice.

"We wanted three points to keep us top of the league but we're still unbeaten."

5:22pm

Tommy Miller is now talking to the media.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew it was gooing to be hard," he said.

Miller bids to get back in the goals

"I thought we deserved to win the game. We started very well, I had a good chance and the keeper made a good save.

"Then we got a bit sloppy. Second half we started very well and they've got the goal when we're stretched and out of position."

4:54pm

Swindon Town 1 (Rooney A 75) Preston 1 (Hayhurst 51)

Swindon fought back well to get a point after falling behind but will perhaps have felt they should have won this match. Reaction to come.

4:53pm

90 mins: Keane goes into the referee's notebook.

4:50pm

SUBSTITUTION: Robertson for Hayhurst, 90

4:49pm

90 minutes: Williams' effort is deflected out for a corner after a brilliant run by McCormack.

4:47pm

Four minutes added time to be played.

4:43pm

85 mins: Flint's header is very well saved by Rudd. Miller lays off for Navarro who fires over.

4:40pm

SUBSTITUTION: Beardsley for Beavon, 83

4:40pm

SUBSTITUTION: Proctor for Holmes, 82

4:39pm

81 mins: Town want a penalty when Collins volleys and it hits a Preston defender around the arm area. Nothing given.

4:37pm

77 mins: Bailey Wright is booked.

4:34pm

Swindon Town 1 (Adam Rooney, 75) Preston 1

Adam Rooney has only been on the pitch a matter of seconds and he's equalised. David Buchanan produces an awful backpass straight into his path and he slides the ball beyond Rudd.

4:33pm

SUBSTITUTION: Rooney A for De Vita, 74

4:29pm

Ferry has picked up an injury, hence his removal from the game.

4:28pm

SUBSTITUTION: Navarro for Ferry, 70

4:27pm

Today's attendance is 9,145.

4:24pm

66 mins: Collins has a left-footed volley from 20 yards saved by Rudd as he scrambles to his left.

4:21pm

62 mins: Collins' volley on the turn from the edge of the area flies over the crossbar.

4:20pm

Swindon have responded well to falling behind but they're still struggling to fashion another golden chance in front of goal.

4:12pm

53 mins: Roberts' piledriver from range fizzes over.

4:11pm

Swindon Town 0 Preston 1 (Will Hayhurst, 51)

Preston take the lead as Town's defence implodes on the counter. Beavon's cross is nodded down by King for Hayhurst and the forward can control before thrashing home. Meek defending by the home side.

4:07pm

49 mins: A rocket from McCormack is pushed over by Rudd. Swindon start the second half at a canter. Flint heads the resulting corner wide.

4:02pm

The second half is under way.

4:01pm

Teams are back out at the County Ground.

3:47pm

Swindon Town 0 Preston North End 0

Not much to say really. Town had an excellent early chance when Rudd denied Miller. Otherwise it's been pretty poor.

3:41pm

38 minutes: McCormack is booked by referee Deadman

3:39pm

37 minutes: Welsh produces the kind of shot that you quickly want to forget, slicing his chip about 10 metres wide.

3:36pm

34 minutes: Wroe lashes well wide of Foderingham's left-hand post from 20 yards after Preston break quickly.

3:32pm

31 minutes: Keane's clearing header falls at Williams' feet but he crashed a poor volley well wide of the far post. Should have done better.

3:30pm

Still very little to report, I'm afriad. Not a lot of quality on offer.

3:26pm

Preston are starting to find their feet. It's hardly a thriller here at the County Ground.

3:24pm

21 minutes: Roberts' free-kick from 25 yards floats into Rudd's hands.

Little by way of goalscoring opportunities here so far. Miller's header the clearest chance.

Plenty of possession for Town in the first 15 minutes. Swindon in total control.

3:11pm

Eight mins: Flint's header from McCormack's cross is straight at Rudd.

3:08pm

Six minutes: What a save by Rudd, flying to his left to deny Miller's header from Williams' cross.

The recent events have split opinion for sure but just to be clear:
---.
Mr Black: He saved our club at the start but left in unceremonious circumstance.
.
Paolo: He gave us our pride back and has given us a team to be proud of but at the end of day his announcements of loyalty were undermined by his actions.
---.
Be proud and thankful of having both but now is the time for the new board to show us the future and as many posters have already underlined....it is time for us to get behind the team in the here and now and to put the past where it belongs - behind us!

Good feeling about today but sad I'm missing it......3-0 to Swindon (and I'm not underestimating the opponents)

Get over it!
Most of you lot are pure hypocrites!!

You backed him and thought he was the best thing since sliced bread.

You forget the club broke their contract first.

He still has unfinished business and should be given an opportunity to do that.
Mong!!!
It's not Passion when you hold the club to ransom every time you don't get your own way

Stand in the centre cycle wave your flag then walk out 24hrs before your biggest game that's not passion

It was and all ways be about just Paolo swindon were just a platform

BECAUSE the man has true PASSION..unlike anything before witnessed at this club.
I think he wants to return to finish the job his has done like noone else could...and if he does want to return..our new directors should welcombe him with open arms. He is a passionate GENIOUS....and the events of the last 2 weeks or so shouldnt cloud that fact. BRING BACK PDC!!! COYR!!

Well although i dont go along with your obvious amusement and hilarity ,there is an element of truth in what you are saying but tragically he will not be coming back ever.
And its depressingly obvious that now he has gone we will struggle like hell
he wore his heart on his sleeve ,he was passionate about his objectives and given the support and promises he was promised he would and could of taken us to the premiership .
I dont blame him for quitting his position was made untenable ,so he had no choice as he is a man of honour .
Start to realise the success we have enjoyed is pretty much down to his management of the players, and dicipline without that we will go into freefall guaranteed

No creativity in the final third Rafa well off the pace Roberts did ok Macca sound my mom Ward and Flint sound enough although the latters distribution not great. Thought we might nick it after we scored but have to be happy with a point because we were second best for much of the game even though they only converted their one real chance.

Very poor today, the new board wanted continuity and Ward/Miller certainly kept up PDC's annoying tactic of playing hoofball to giant centre backs for the entire game even when clearly not working.

Desperately need a striker, winger and central midfielder on loan if we are to go up automatically. Williams seems very much a confidence player and you can tell he has none. Raffa seems to need competition - when he has none he is dire and think Miller would be better as the manager on the sidelines.

Also Nathan thompson needs to start! Macca is a liability defensively as a full back

Still didn't lose too much ground today and unbeaten run continues so will try to keep positive

Well I just can not believe how many gullible fans and obviously the anti brigade are turning on Paolo Di Canio. Yes he had many faults and his unique way of managing players which was not good at times. Why on earth many fans chose to suck up to Black the other day is beyond me and a complete joke. Read his statement again and again. The man who poured millions of his money in and did not know of the 3 year plan and what was going on at the club. After a man in his position chose to go to twitter so soon after Paolo left stinks of an immaturity of a child and let me get my bit in first knowing full well Paolo has stated it will all come out eventually and so Black wanted to get in first which in life as I know it means you have something to hide.. This is an act of a desperate man who almost by his own timescale demands sunk our club or put it into administration and yes he saved our club with his money no doubt at all but to act like this and try and portray himself as some poor man that has been bullied and did not know what was going on at the club, come on what the hell do you take us for Andrew. There are the anti Di Canio brigade lapping this up and oh thanks Andrew for telling us what happened, what a load of complete tosh. I am on no one's side and Paolo almost stitched himself up with the deadline and I am sure the outgoing board knew about the loan player money owed so knew the takeover would stall. My belief is Patey who Black is in awe with, was hired to get rid of Paolo or at least make him resign and did his job in the end as well as find the investors. He is the biggest toad in all this and that is why he was hired and fell out with Paolo almost immediately. All I would ask of fans of whichever camp you are in to wait for it all to come out which it will and then decide your own feelings. All this mud slinging is doing no good and although I found Paolo to be a fantastic manager and great ambassador for our club I certainly feel he had many faults and certainly would not want him back. We need a very level headed manager but someone with passion like Di Canio which will be hard to find but Coyle or Adkins would be fantastic. Thanks to Paolo and his team for the future but please move on like we have to here at STFC. Need a manager quick as I do not feel the players can respond to team mates as well as they would a manager on the sidelines which was evident today I feel.

It would take Brentford winning their game in hand and the other teams all picking up points. Unrealistic I know but the point was that it's so tight at the top that any of the teams can drop pretty quickly, us included.

good at times today when we got the ball down. Plenty of guts and determination and we did miss some good chance especially Miller. I thought Preston were quite good and well organised. Collins does cause problems but both he and Williams miss the target far too often. Agree that Macca should move forward he is great when he runs at players. Still came back after going behind after a lousy week for the players. Disappointing after Tranmere but all the top sides are going to have off days - it is how you bounce back. Good idea to get Rafa off.

Seen both the Tranmere and PNE post- di Canio games this week.

Thoughts as follows

Williams - having a dreadful spell of form.

Collins - excellent v Tranmere, awol today.

Roberts - excellent v Tranmere, OK today

De Vita - poor both games

Ferry - poor both games but carrying knock

Miller - OK both games but one paced and not as good as Hollands.

Macca - good going forward but defensively looks like very shaky

McEveley - steady, had a tricky last 15 thugh against Tranmere when they brought their winger on. Generally very comforatable against Holmes.

Ward, Flint - Rock solid defensively, no danger of getting caught on the ball though (a positive way of saying long-ball)

Fodders - one great save v Tranmere, not muh else to do

Both games we needed someone on the touchline, the Ward - Miller set up is all well and good, but you can't see it all when playing.

We also need some bodies in fast. Striker, winger and centre midfielder essential. Pack now running the show at Cheltenham it seems, 2 more goals today. Should have got him (and the others) when we had the chance, then done the sale. Storey and Ferry now out, at least 3 players bang out of form or inconsistent but no real alternatives, can't wait until the new manager comes in, need action now.

We looked like a team without a manager. Spirited enough but very edgy and disjointed. Several very poor individual performaances. Although we could well have won it in the last 10 minutes, I thought we got out of jail. But at least we showed a lot of character to get the draw. There'll be cause for concern if we don't win on Tuesday. Without wanting to suggest that we rush the appointment of a manager, I hope the board already have some irons in the fire.

I thought he was pretty good overall. Played several advantages and spotted most of the niggly fouls. I thought one of their clatters from behind was lucky to escape a booking though. Did anyone else think our discipline was a bit suspect today? One or two sharp exchanges between the players and McCormack losing his composure again.

not a bad result/performance today all things considered. keeps us in the top2 with a home game we need to win on tuesday.

but the new board need to get a new manager before next weekend I honestly think.

I would like to see the board appoint Nigel adkins or Glenn hoddle to the end of the season. (I think this is a realistic move despite other fans saying its not)
wouldnt want terry butcher because of malpas returning and the long ball style which is not what we need for continuity after Di canio. wouldnt mind phil brown or hasselbank of the ones reported having applied yesterday. Please not buckle/newell or dross like steve thorn!!

shame we cant get a deal done now for marlon pack on loan, if we offer luke rooney along with benson they could be persuaded.

it also looks like that akpro guy is the main reason tranmere are winning games I think we played tranmere at the right time in one sense not another.

Fair shout mate but you have to be honest, they must have a reasonable idea where they might sit.

Regards discipline, yes was a bit suspect but I thought Macca had a point, never a foul in a month of Sundays but the ref never gonna change his mind so a silly booking really, as for Roberts 'handball', the ref was directly in front of me when Roberts asked about the handball & he clearly said 'it wasn't me who gave it', so if that's the case why did he blow the whistle, & yes I know that's what the assistants are for but hardly a deliberate handball if the blokes turning his back IMO

Not the best perfomance this year but considering the turmoil of the last week it was a good fight back. The defence has been the key all season, they were solid again and are probably our best asset.

Not sure if I want Paolo back or not but whoever is selected I will back him because I want STFC to do well.

Now is the time to back the team more than ever. Some didn't do as well as they can today, Ferry being one, but you could not fault the commitment. Remember Holmes went to Preston for money, did he choose the right team or were we lucky ?

Get behind the lads, back Ward/Miller til a new man is in place and we can do it. Patience, belief and support.

I heard about Si's injury in the Miller interview after the match which did explain his performance to an extent but it backs my point that the commitment from the players was there.

Hearing that Hoddle was there, I would love to hear that he comes in for the last 13 games to help Ward and Miller with the tactics.

Listening to Miller's interview after the game they are not trying to change the work ethic. What they may need is help with the tactics. Could Glen do us a big favour here and make up for the way he left us ?

Oxon, overall the defence has been fantastic but that's 2 poor goals we've given away in the last 2 home games. Same thing each time - deep cross, easy knockdown, bang. If anything todays was the worse of the two because the bloke had all the time in the world to get it under control and smash it in. We need to work on that.

Far from pretty today but we have played like this on other occasions this season, and we are still unbeaten. lack of mid field creativity is mostly down to Ferrys ankle problem re emerging, just as we don't need it. Though Roberts was again showing great improvement from what we have previously seen and now do we play Rooney from the start, possibly so.

LLounge a lot more light hearted and many more smiles today than for a long time, seems a bit weight has been lifted. One guy told me PDC signed no less than 57 players during his term here, cab you confirm that ??

Thanks Jayden, sorry for not getting back to you last night., The Crawley guy, well that is a fair choice and he works within a budget in a good manner, good shout.

What did you think of todays game, certainly not the best but by no means the worse one of the season. Hoofball because of Ferrys injury, but Roberts a lot better and Miller the most active I've seen him although he fell away a bit 2nd half.
A lot of relieved people around and sadly not too many with good words for the dearly departed, most saying he orchestrated his own demise, a sad end to an era which should have been celebrated.

No they weren't, BBC Wiltshire said there were no managers or potential managers at the match
then have a look at sky bet hasselbaink and hoddle have come right in on the odds ????
Oh sorry didn't realise betting odds being shortened meant that they were at the match.
theres no smoke with at fire ??? we will see
Didn't say anything about that, all I said was BBC Wiltshire were on manager watch & there was no-one manager wise at the match, sky bet had Di Canio as favourite earlier in the week, I wonder....mmmmm
The no. of people betting on any club's next manager is apparently miniscule, and doubly so for a club like the Town. A couple of people whacking £20 on someone sees the odds fall drastically.

Di Canio would have been short odds because there's no way they'd have him at long odds, have a few people get on it at 50/1 before the odds drop and end up having to pay out. Before Tue's game there was always the chance that a quickly resolved take-over might have seen him talked around, even if just to the summer.

Tbh most of these sorts of bets only seem to exist to give SSN something to talk about when they get the SkyBet bod in the studio for some free publicity.

Just got back home from the game.

What I glaringly obvious is we NEED to have direction from the dugout.

My preference would be Paolo as he developed this squad into a team and then into a group (Paolo's words), therefore I think he will always get more from them than anybody else.

I hope/think he should swallow his pride and come back and finish what he started.

All these converted Black/Patey lovers should ask themselves how many pizzas they bought or how much snow they shovelled?

While we should all be grateful for the money AB was prepared to lose, nobody and I repeat NOBODY has given more to this club than Paolo.

Sorry to single you out Louis but I have to say this.

Agree with all that Wiz .I thought we showed spirit but lacked quility. The lads did well to come back and should have won in the end.Williams had his worst game yet .The way pdc left in the end was a kick in the teeth for most fans that i spoke to but as i said before AB lied to us about doing up the ground and patey was still given it large about the ground and new investment for it when all the time Black wanted out .

Jayden, I also had a word with Watkins and the new guy he was showing around today. The guy seemed very socialable and amazed that supporters come from near and far. He was also amazed at the length of time some people have been coming to CG and said that kind of loyalty should be rewarded with good footie. Obviously trying to build bridges and a good relationship with the fan base, not such a bad thing.
Sadly it came to my attention that PDC has been told to stay away now and is no longer welcome at the ground. I noticed all the pictures depicting him have been removed as have the names in LL food concessions been changed, all reference has been cleared away, a sad end to what should have been a celebration. We move on.

Oldham, all this talk of "Black/Patey lovers" and "Paolo haters" does you no favours. For what it's worth, I think it makes you sound like a Black/Patey hater. But aren't we all just Swindon Town lovers with different points of view? Yes, Di Canio brought a lot to our club but shouting at us (in the way that he used to do) that nobody has given more is to ignore the achievements of many Town stalwarts who have given far more to our club than he has. If you reflect on it you may agree that there is a long list.

After the week we have had, I would have taken a point today.

Started well, but seemed to lose our way and only got going after Rooney scored, having said that if we had had a decent goalscorer on the pitch we could easily have won in the end.

What was obvious is that Ward & Miller need an assistant in the dug out during the game, it must be difficult to have much communication during the match, having said that a great sub in Rooney to score with his first touch!!

If we are realistic about going up a new manager has to be in place soon, hopefully by the end of the week, we need a few extra faces to spice up the squad and with the games coming thick & fast we cannot afford to tread water for to long.

I see no reason for not bringing in a temporary manager until the end of the season, Hoddle has been rumoured, would he do it for 4 mths? I think it would be best to get to the end of the season and then have a complete rethink about where this club is going.

If Miller's early header had gone in I think it would have been a different game but we certainly struggled to assert ourselves after that promising start. We always seem to struggle against the big, shirt pulling/pushing physical brickhouses.

There were too many below par perfromances today, Williams was very poor (and I usually rate him highly in spite of his lack of finishing), De Vita struggled with the close physical marking, Ferry was obviously hampered by injury and Macca was a liability at times. Nathan is so much more reliable. If Macca is going to play it will have to be midfield because he is too wild at times and gets caught out of position. He is a weak link in the position in which he is being played. Too much head tennis again and Flint's distribution left something to be desired. Lots of effort from Collins and Roberts but to little effect. The lads showed good character to come back after going one down and could have secured all the points but another one of those frustrating afternoons.

Fingers crossed for Tuesday but the squad is looking light and it looked like Navarro hurt himself when he shot and hit the ground with his foot.

Was today yet another day when Simon Ferry has an indifferent game and the rest of the team does as the creativity stops or slows down. He surely has proven himself as the motivational force behind many a good Town performance. We need others to be able to step up when Simon suffers the rare off day. I hope his injury is not serious and that he is soon back to his very best.

PdC walked out on us, end of. Rather than managing a club that he was being paid a vast sum of money to do, He chose to go and see QPR play, what does that say??

PdC is a long way short or the best manager we have ever had, had he not walked out perhaps one day he may have been, after all Lou managed 2 sucessive promotion's on a lot smaller budget than PdC, I would have said that PdC was until he resigned about the 5/6th best manger we had had, but now for his lack of loyalty he's way down the list.

Multi millionare Andrew Black to his credit funded STFC until he tired of the cause.
Dont blame PDC for that...he even offered to put his own money into the club to keep the momentum going.
PDC did not overspend,he just followed the target of success that he believed the owners of STFC also desired.
The old consortium bottled it because it drove them out of there financial comfort zone.
PDC does not have a comfort zone..just a rare desire and passion that is sadly lacking in the minds..let alone actions of some of the negative posters on this site.
Lets stay comfortably secure and small shall we David Syrett (like your namesake)..God forbid showing desire and passion!!

Glas red, with average gates of 8000 we are a relativity small club, one which has spent the vast majority of it's years in the lower two division's. I like you would love to see this club step up a level and be comfortable there, but the way to do it is to build solid foundations.

We need a solid fan base of 12K+ supporters, a new stadium, and a long term plan. Recklessly chucking money around is not the answer.

If we had a Saudi Prince bankrolling the club then PdC would have had a great chance of making it work, but simply put, we ran out of money.

But as I said, PdC was not sacked he walked, What can the club do about it? when PdC gives a decent explanation as to why he had to have a 5pm deadline for the board to takeover then perhaps we will know more.

It's pointless arguing with smirg kcab (aka grim reapers gone). He'll overstep the mark eventually, get banned again, then sneak back on under a different name. May as well just let him get on with his deranged ramblings, he's clearly not the full ticket.

At least he hasn't wished a broken leg on any of our players this time.

I dont hate him mate, i just think his achieved what he set out to achieve minus the next prmotion.

If Andrew Black would have said....Hey,, i love Swindon, i'll keep the cash coming and yes to all your bonuses, i wouldnt have had any issues other than cheering us on.

However, what has come to light is that we do not have either the mass fan base, nor the finacial backing to sustain PDC's promotion endevours, and thats just a plain simple fact.......

I love the guy, but i cant help thinking he's shot himself in the foot now and all the publicity is doing him no favours either.......

About to turn in buddy, but I don't like to see two normally decent blokes fall out. We've all been through enough this last few weeks and really don't need to be falling out with ourselves.

Just heard some breaking news, it seems that when Pistorious was arrested he had to phone up his dad and ask him if he could stump up the bail, as he was skint.

It seems that the Police may drop all charges in the light of new evidence found in the flower bed, footprints.

The Police were looking for a sawn off bloke with a shot gun, but that was a false alarm as the bloke was seen ar5ing around aimlessly.

When leaving court Oscar looked confident and its also reported he looked bouyant and had a spring in his step. Fresh rumours are suggesting that if Oscar gets hung MR Blobby has asked if he can have his blades

Den,

Agree, defence opened up for their goal and caused panic. Ironic really as they should have been awarded a free kick when Rafa handled the ball, won it and lost possession. If the ref had spotted it, as we gained an initial advantage, the chance would not have come about.

I still stand by what I say about the defence as it was again apparent today. Preston had 4 attempts on goal and 1 corner. They are the unit that will win the league if they continue to perform. If we score 2 we rarely concede 2.

Before anyone mentions scoring 2, have a look at at how many times we have not scored. Score 1 and we get at least a point. Thirteen games to go 26-27 points could well be enough.

Support the team now, don't get bogged down in the Black/Paolo arguements. If he returns, fine support him. If he doesn't move on and support Darren/Tommy or whoever.

We are Swindon Town FC and We are going up.

We had to settle for a point today Stratton, because we weren't good enough to win,in fact if they didn't give us a goal we would have lost.when you lose a manager and a very good player it's bound to effect the team,we also lost 3 good loan players that would have made a difference,so what do you expect?we're lucky we never had a points deduction then you've have something to moan about, get real.

Spot on Carolyn. Can't see the need for all the doom and gloom.
Fair point, both of you, but the issue is that we looked a little laboured today and there wasn't a lot on the bench to freshen things up.

Ferry didn't have his best game but he was carrying a knock and rightly got taken off. But Navarro and Miller are a workmanlike midfield. We need a Pack or a Hollands to liven things up.

Also think De Vita looked poor, Williams was very poor, Collins tried hard but achieved little. Alan Mac was woeful first half, kept making wrong decision and distribution poor. Flints distribution was abysmal.

I think all the recent away games on poor pitches with a threadbare squad have contributed to this because these aren't bad players.

We are still second and if we can get 2 or 3 fresh faces of the right calibre then this leagus is there for the taking.

Those sort of comments make me hate the Premiership even more aNd the FA for that matter. So precious about the 'best league in the world'...what a load of b0llocks. If they're so supreme why did Bayern make Arsenal look utterly clueless the other night? Was cringing watching the boys versus men.

COYMR
agree with Oxon although I suspect we are related!!

In truth I think it was better that Paolo stayed away today as the distraction would have been too much. In the last week or in theory two games if you include Monday's preparation, the players have had three lots of managers! Two sets walking out! Did the lads know that everyone was leaving after the Tranmere game beforehand? Some players may not be happy about Ward and Miller especially if they don't start, get dropped etc. and that is an issue! Ward is possibly our best player but one of the worst for the long ball and if I was honest I would not start Miller I would play Thompson L or Macca. So maybe that is the answer until we have a manager - Miller in the dugout issuing orders.

What worries me more though is the fans on here arguing. Paolo has gone, he was great while it lasted, he left of his own accord (pushed? Who knows!) but unlikely to come back, Macari did but he was pushed! When the dust settles everyone including the current and past board will remember his time for the right reasons and for me he will be up there with Hoddle, Danny Williams, Ardiles and Macari.

The common denominator is what is right for the Team. We are going to lose or draw the odd game in the run in it happens, Bournemouth have lost two in a row, Tranmere most of their last seven!! Remember Exeter on a Monday night anyone in the play off season. We will however win most of them and I stand by my comment in October we will win the league.

Bit gutted coz I live in Brum and just realised that it is unlikely I can go to Coventry which like Walsall is a short trip for me and my lad. Walsall it is instead.

I've just seen more patronising rubbish being said about us, this time from Paul Merson: "Putting Paolo Di canio in charge of a Premier League club would be a big risk but Swindon should have done all they could to hold onto him. Right Paul, what you mean is we are supposed to accept all the shortcomings of PDC because he is Big Paolo and we are Little Swindon? It's OK to take risks with the livelihood of Little Swindon because they don't really matter but for goodness sake let's not gamble with the future of an important football club like, say, Big Arsenal?
.
Typical of the Premier League obsession that dominates among the media and former top flight players. And gut-wrenchingly horrible.
Paul is right IMO with his thoughts as we are only little Swindon - always have been apart from a brief flirtation once in the top league.

Paolo was changing our little town mentality, well some anyway grasped the metal but others did not, now that little town could well return - shame.

Firstly Den, I don't need or want any favours.

When I say Paolo has given more than anybody I am talking about the period whilst he has been in charge.

I remember how he lost his Parents but still carried on.

He has transformed the way the players respect the badge.

He has introduced pride in how the club is seen by other clubs.

Have you forgotten the plaudits we have had over the last 2 years?

Best Family Club.

Bradford City fans thanking us by the shedload for showing the utmost respect to those they lost.

Yes, its us the fans who have earned these accolades but we did it with Paolo.

He has introduced methods and a mentality that is far beyond our clubs previous standard.

He relinquished his image rights to ensure the players received the very best medical care.

The list goes on and on!!!

AB has already gone on record to say that he was never really interested in STFC (I like many others suspect it was the prospect of "Get Richer Quick" through the ground re-developement), so if you like yes I am a AB and Patey hater if that makes you feel better.

AB took to twitter to "Put the Record Straight".

What an immature way of doing things.

This is a multi-millionaire that allows himself to be left like a sitting duck with football league club of Swindon Towns stature, yet he doesn't like football.
He didn't know about the 3 year plan(Yeah, right).
He agrees a new contract that turns out to be very one-sided in Paolo's favour (Should have read it first).

Wants out of the club at breakneck speed, threatens us with administration, sells our best playing asset, then pees off paolo to such a degree that he resigns.

He could have saved us all a lot of time if he just changed his facebook status to single.
I agree with most of that Oldhamred but what gets mast people, myself included is what would cause PdC to walk? He knew a new board was coming in, he apparently spoke to Jed on the Friday and agreed terms to continue but then added this 5pm deadline for the deal to be completed, WHY?
I suspect the reason for the temporary contracts 5pm deadline is something as simple as it was taken out at that time 7 days before, or that was the latest time that the FL would confirm ratification.

I do think there was an element of Paolo calling "their" bluff, but I'm not really sure who "their" is.

It could have been to try to get the FL to pull their finger out, or he may just have been poorly advised by Phil spencer.

A thought has just occured to me:

If Phil Spencer knew there was to be no more or very few transfer dealings with the new board his potential earnings will have fallen through the floor.

I wonder how much of his advise to Paolo has biased towards how he would benefit?

I'm starting to smell a rat!!

first time poster after following the site for a while. I just don't understand why Paolo is not adored and missed by all stfc fans. He became my hero in his short but amazing time with us and i still feel raw and heartbroken that its over. I've been a sth for a while now and started going with my dad in macari era. I can honestly say i've enjoyed paolos time more than any other except the prem season. I can also remember the all time low that was wilsons second season. The sad excuse for pro footballers like prutton, sheehan et al that made me leave each game angry at their lack of even effort let alone pride or passion.
Compare that to the situation that paolo has built for us in just 19 short months. It is beyond me how any town fan has anything bad to say about king Paolo.
He did break my heart by leaving and i still can't believe he's gone but he was not treated well by the club. I don't blame him for leaving. If you want someone to blame then 'carcrash' Black is your man.
I was surprised and disappointed that we didn't sing Paolos name at the game today.
Paolo was a crazy genius and pure entertainment on and off the pitch but most importantly he got results too. If carcrash black hadn't pulled out then paolo would have delivered at least another promotion and probably a lot more. The least he deserves is some gratitude.
Goodbye Paolo, you're the best thing since sliced bread, love you.

Just a few words on the role of joint player managers. Firstly I think both of them had good games so they coped with that side well. There didn't seem to be any surprises in the way North End played so it appears they did some good preparation work. They had to deal with he TV interest which was really about Paolo but handled it well. There were problems communicating with a bench that seemed dead. (inevitably?) Si Ferry needed to come off some time before he did. Infact he should not have been selected in the starting lineup because it was clear early doors that he wasn't right. Selection challenges for Tuesday. Assuming Ferry will be out they are going to have a difficult decision. Navarro is not match fit judging by his time on the pitch. It seems that Macca should go there. Thommo coming in will strengthen rather than weaken the defence. I would also aim to give Louis Thom 30 mins and Navs at least 20 mins. Formation might have to change a little to do it but they need the time. They will also have a challenge to get Williams' head right. His confidence seemed shattered possibly because he didn't start at Tranmere. Then of course they have to be prepared for a new manager coming in or start on the loan player decisions. Joys of a manager. Overall they did a good job in the circumstances.

You must have been watching a different game to me, I thought Flint played well, if anyone was hoofing it aimlessly it was macca. Improved a bit in second half, but would say not he is not a natural full back.We have to bring Nat Thompson back into the back four. With the likelyhood ferry will be out for a while, best chance for Macca getting a start will be in midfield where his indiscipline will cause the least harm.

Relieved to get a point after such a lack lustre display. When Ferry's not at his best we do seem to lack any sort of creativity. How we miss Matt Ritchie!!
Thought Ward was immense at the back as was Flint other than more wayward passing than usual. Am rapidly running out of patience with Williams, surely Rooney has to start next game as he does at least seem to possess the one obvious quality missing from Williams reportoire....i.e. composure. And please, no more talk of Williams playing as a winger, you need to have an ounce of a football brain for that position.
I'd also bring back Nathan Thomson into the back four and push Macca up into the midfield as he is far more combatative than Miller.

Overall they did a good job in the circumstances.
spot on yes Macca into midfield and Thompson back in and start with A Rooney and Luke Rooney for RD just to freshen up the team a bit .Good spirit yesterday as it was a game we should have won but it could have also have been a defeat .

COYMR
Ferry was carrying an ankle injury it said after the game and eventually had to come off.

COYMR
I don't understand all this talk about Hoddle returning. As a player manager he certainly impressed on the field, but I can't help thinking any success he had with management of our club was largely down to John Gorman being his No 2. He didn't wait long before joining masterbates at Chelsea and personally I don't think he did great there or with England for that matter.

Anyone who thinks that we were just going to continue as before and pick up maximum points along the way after all that has happened in the last few weeks, and more importantly in the last 6 days is clearly not thinking straight.
.
6 days ago when our supposed loyal manager upped sticks and walked (his choice), I would have taken 4 points from 2 games and 2nd in the league at the end of it.
.
Yesterday clearly showed the value of someone on the touchlines that can take a removed view of whats happening on the pitch. We missed that yesterday and earlier substitutions in 1 or 2 key areas could have made all the difference.
.
Having said that, I think we applied ourselves well, and long spells in the game where we could have scored more were it not for 2 or 3 excellent saves from their keeper, so all in all, for a managerless team and a club that has been dragged through the doggy doo doo just lately, not too shabby tbh.

Wow. Just read through all the heated debate that went on into the early hours on here. Well when i Say read I meant was got fed up and just read the more reasoned posts, so that didn't take too long.

Anyway. My glass half full moment.

NO TEAM is averaging 2 pts a game. Current standings as they are show..

1 Sheff U ...... 1.818
2 Town ...........1.788
3 Tranmere.....1.735
4 Doncaster .. 1.788
5 Yeovil ......... 1.758
6 Bournmouth 1.710
7 Brentford .... 1.719

This league is, as we know, very tight. So the team that can raise their game just a little to average just over 2 pts a game should get across the line. Yet the way the top 7 are dropping points, I wouldn't rule out Coventry, Walsall, Notts C either.

This league is could be won by a club with as little as 82/85 points, everything is still up for grabs.

Our unbeaten run of 13 games has netted us 27 points, so thats 2.077 per game.

The other 6 clubs are as follows for their last 13 games.

1. Shef U....... 1.846
2. Town ...........2.077
3. Tranmere.....1.461
4. Doncaster .. 1.769
5. Yeovil ......... 2.231
6. Bournmouth. 2.000
7, Brentford .... 1.769

On current form, it could be a 1,2,3 of

Yeovil
Swindon
Bournmouth.

But hey, its all speculation and crystal ball gazing.

Lets just sum up that its far from doom and gloom, we have it in our ouw hands - along with everyone else - Our season can still end in GLORY.

But for all you doom-mongers, it could still end in tears.

Oldham, first of all my apologies. What I was trying to say was that using words like "lovers" and "haters" is not helpful to the debate because it immediately creates an "us and them" position, when in fact we're all on the same side.
.
I agree with much of what you say. For five years I have been asking the question about the motives for the involvement of Fitton, Wray, Arbib and Black. But there's no getting away from the fact that without them there would have been no PDC at STFC. There may well even have been no STFC. And the legacy of their involvement is a healthier football club and stronger League position than we could have imagined before they arrived.
.
As to PDC himself, I didn't want him to leave. Even after he confirmed his resignation last week, I wanted him to change his mind. But it was his choice to issue yet another ultimatum to the club, his choice to set an artificial deadline and his choice to be inflexible about it and say "my resignation stands". In the end, I think the old and new owners probably saw it as one act of brinkmanship too far. I'm sorry to say that I believe many fans have, like me, reluctantly reached the conclusion that it is better that we now start afresh.
.
I don't think Black has behaved immaturely. He's put up with PDC's threats and accusations for ages. He said he would give his version eventually, and now he has. It's up to us to digest it all and reach our own conclusions. My conclusion is that Black and PDC have been marvellous for Swindon Town. All good things come to an end. The circumstances of PDC's departure are sad but they were his choice.
.
Turning to the Merson comments I mentioned, I'm a bit surprised and intrigued that many people seem to agree with him. Why would PDC be such a massive gamble for a big club but not a gamble for a small club? What are the risks at a Premier League club that are greater than at a club in the lower divisions? Most smaller clubs are living on the edge. Their very existence is at risk much of the time. Sorry, but I think Merson is simply saying that small clubs should be grateful for big names, whatever the risk, while those important big clubs mustn't allow mavericks like PDC to jeopardise their prospects.

And of course Bradley Wright Phillips signed for Brentford first thing Tuesday morning.
Yeah, so had PdC have stayed we would have probably still got him, I've no doubt he only signed for Brentford because PdC announced his resignation.

Ferry was carrying an ankle injury it said after the game and eventually had to come off.

I don't understand all this talk about Hoddle returning. As a player manager he certainly impressed on the field, but I can't help thinking any success he had with management of our club was largely down to John Gorman being his No 2. He didn't wait long before joining masterbates at Chelsea and personally I don't think he did great there or with England for that matter.
Let's face it fellow reds. Whoever is in charge, what happens to the new board, PdC, new loanees etc. whatever happens with those we cannot as fans do much about it sadly. But WE ARE going to be there or there abouts. WE ARE going to be either automatic and if not certainly in the dreaded play offs. It is going to be13 games of nerves, ups, downs, tears and joy. Personally I think it is great that despite everything we are second still and a decent finnish from top spot! Bickering on here is not going to solve anything when the lads simply need our support and faith.

Here we call him Glenn their they call him Hoddle.

I remember the banners the celebrations at the Civic offices as if it was yesterday.

Glenn has un finished business with Town and I would love for him to come back and bring Gorman out of retirement with him and see this season through to its conclusion.

If GH was to return to the County Ground even on a short term contract this would be a great deal for both parties.

It would get him back into management and his style of play would be ideally suited for the current players at the County Ground.

If I could choose one manager to takeover it would be Glenn Hoddle, proabably my heart ruling my head but football is a passionate game and ruled by emotions as a supportor therefore it figures my heart would rule my head.

I agree with Hookey, in that Flints distribution is very poor and does resort to lumping it forward.

However, defensively, I think he looked pretty solid and got better as the game went on.

I liked you more when you were true to yourself instead of following the herd.
Please stop being a Paolo hater louis because he certainly doesn't hate you.

Den, I am surprised you are getting so uppity, it is not like you.

I am also surprised that you have taken Mersons comments to be a sleight on our club, as I don't see it that way.

I completely agree with him in as much as the ego's of players and boards at our level are much more manageable and as such are likely to take the kind of Paolo approach better.

No Premier league board would take a punt on Di Canio because he ruffles too many feathers, which is why clowns like Maclaren can get the England job, as there is more to the role than just preparing the team.

Also, Premiership players being the prima donnas that they are, would be less likely to go along with his fitness regime and off field discipline.

On his basis, I would agree that it would seem a greater risk for a Premiership club than us. I see it more as a compliment.

Pewsham, I don't take Merson's comments as a sleight on us in particular. But you still haven't convinced me that the gamble is greater for clubs at our level than it would be for a Premier League club. A bigger club can recover more quickly from setbacks than a small one can. I imagine many lower division chairmen, with their very limited finances, would consider PDC a big risk. I'm sure we will all watch his progress with great interest; I genuinely would love to see him go all the way to the top. But I think he will always be a firework waiting to go off, and I believe clubs of all sizes will be equally wary of that.
Den, you are a bright bloke and I do not need to convince you of anything. it is a difference of opinion, of which we have had many over the years!

Merson says he thinks it would be a gamble for a Prem club but I am not sure he feels it is a gamble for us and I think he is right.

If you were the board a Prem club would you take a punt on di Canio? I am not sure I would. He is one of those characters that fans love but boards and owners would hate, as has been proved at Swindon.

Cheers Pewsham. All good stuff. Answer to your question - no, I probably wouldn't. I think your assessment is a bit too black and white though. PDC is a complex character. He delights fans and directors much of the time. But he can infuriate both too.
.
I don't disagree with Merson at all about PDC being a gamble. I just don't see how the risk is less for a smaller club that has to be run as a very tight ship. In many ways I think we and PDC were an ideal match. We were punching below our weight and we were able to give him the resources he needed (and bail him out when he got it wrong). For any club at our level with that kind of money, he is worth the gamble. But those clubs are few and far between - and we are no longer one of them - so it's hard to see where he is going to fit in.
.
I reckon Umpcah is probably right about PDC and his staff eventually heading back to Italy, which will be a pity. Much better would be PDC becoming less demanding and less provocative, and continuing to give our game the benefit of the great skills of him and his team.
That's enough from me.

Jockster,

Only just caught your post........LOL, sorry forgot the Carnation due to a very busy week and hectic morning yesterday.
NO, rascal, I didn't speak to Jed, only the bloke who was with NW, who seems decent enough. Can't complain one bit, he couldn't have been a more decent sort, so I am hopeful of a long term future with these guys, obviously all they want to do may be out of their hands and as with previous club owners this covenant and SBC get in the way and thwart many good intentions, and that could have even been a component in Blacks decision to quit .
May be later than usual Tuesday but I'll try to remember the Carnation , LOL.

PS: Any chance you could mediate between Grim and Louis, two good blokes, shame to see them like this.

DeVita was poor yesterday as was Williams and Collins but DeVita has been one of the most underrated players this season and was quite often the easy option to be substitute the last two seasons..

Not a bad shout. I think a lot of fans would like to see what Luke can do, when given an extended run.
I think you're being a little harsh on Raffa though. Yes, he had a poor game yesterday but so did several others(not forgetting of course that P.N.E. were'nt a bad side).
Raffa, I think, has had a reasonable season, given that last year I didn't think much of him at all.

I`m not saying that Raffa should be the first name to go on the teamsheet but I feel that he is a valuable member of the squad. Often he is just average but he is a trier and occasionally does well. That`s MY opinion of course !

Lets hope things settle down and then we will all see what happens and then can judge on how well Di Canio did or didn't do at the end of the season. And I know that the old board ie, Wray backed Di Canio to the heights that Swindon just couldn't afford to do.Some blame has to be shared between all parties involved i think.Black for pulling out at the time he did (but he should be thanked for saving the club originally)Di Canio for entertaining us for the past 18 months, but it's a shame he set his deadline when he did (but i do think that was per planned against him by the new board)and then on the opposite side of the coin, he walked without finishing the job he started and thanks to the new board for coming in and saving the club but what are their intentions going to be? like they said on the football league show we are now working in a different direction as a club , which might mean selling our best players ie Foderingham etc to survive and manage the club at a level that they chose to manage it at.The last board made mistakes giving someone like Di Canio the job in the first place from day one. They made that chioce, they made the choice to pump money into the club without any questions asked which is well weird, then when they decided enough is enough Di Canio didn't like it.Then the plan was to get rid of Wray, then Di Canio by breaking his promises only to save a lot of money.ie if they sacked, Di Canios lot that would have cost the club millions in compensation.By promising Di Canio something and breaking his promise , which I admit Di Canio set the deadline , but that decision made him walk. They knew he would react like that because of the character he is.The new board knew that deep down that they couldn't afford to supply Di Canio with the funds that he demanded and by upsetting him they knew that was the best way of getting him out, even though it was his decision.I think mistakes have been made by everyone.once the team that started all this ie Fitton,Black,Wray and Di Canios team all started going in there separate ways, things all went downhill and ended in a disaster. Now we have to see what happens in the next eposode of STFC. I just hope it's a positive ending. But thanks again for Di Canio as a manager, I'm sorry to see you go!

PCowley, not recycling all this again but PDC set a deadline the new board had no control over..
They had in fact agreed a new contract which we are lead to believe PDC taking less money.
PDC resigned, nobody has to go running after him,it would not happen if u did it in my job.
Could everything been handled better?
You bet it could.
I wanted PDC to stay but i think it is clear he will not, although i still would not rule it out 100%!
The games we have got left away from home even with PDC it is going to hard to get 50% of the points IMO.
No getting away from the fact all of them walking away has left us in the lurch at the most crucial time.
We have won one and drew one since he has gone, keep that going and we will be ok!

Good read, did have a little laugh when i read:
", this was when Di Canio failed to turn up for pre-season then refused to travel to Holland with the team.".
Open minded and all that but it does make you wonder!

The obvious thing to take from that game is that we looked like a team without a manager and run by 2 players with little coaching experience. I am glad we didn't score another 2 gifted goals as some would be calling for them to be given the role full time. We were lucky for the point and had very few ideas other than bypassing the midfield in favour of long balls. Could see by some of the stupid balls played and decision making we need a manager to take control ASAP as if we play like that each week we will end up 8th. Considering the circumstances not to lose was a good result and full marks for effort from the lads but we need a manager. Surprised Bodin wasn't on the bench helping out as he has a steady head and is a good coach. Is Jimmy Floyd the answer? I am not sure if experience would benefit more until the season end rather than him cutting his teeth in a promotion fight but many of the names are so uninspiring perhaps he is the answer. Reports PDC wanted more money I find hard to believe - looks like the political 'inside' info going to press to get back at him still. Even if his wage was as high as suggested I'd say money well spent on a man that delivered despite the controversy and mistakes made. Wembley, promotion, beat many sides in leagues above, left us top of the table and had great win rate. Whoever forks out for him and his team will do well if they can put up with the side-show.

Would Yeovil be allowed up? I did hear that their ground would not be considered good enough for the Championship.

Back to Swindon, the Paolo fear factor drove the lads on - now that is gone, will players go into a more 'relaxed' mode?

A few positives from the game yesterday, but realistically we should have turned Preston over. They are a side in deep trouble, and were there for the taking.

Under Paolo, we might have had a crack at the top two. Now, I'm not so sure - the play-offs are always a lottery.

We were the better team yesterday and deserved the win against a good, yes good,PNE side.
Don't forget they beat AFCB last week and are playing for their new manager.
Swindon 11 shots PNE 4,7 and 2 on target respectively.
Swindon 13 corners PNE 1
Fouls committed Swindon 4 PNE 15.
I know stats are not always a great indication but for yesterday i think it does show that we were the better side even though we were far from our best.
