Hoog and Nell join the 100 club
JONAS Hoog and Aaron Nell smashed through the 100-point barrier for the season as Swindon held on for a 5-4 home win against lowly Telford on Saturday.
The Wildcats duo started the day on 98 and hit triple figures for the first time in their senior careers within three minutes of each other.
Both were delighted to reach the century mark but revealed they were focused on the rest of the campaign rather than enjoying personal glory.
Hoog said: “It’s always fun to get a lot of points but it’s more important that we got two points against Telford.
“It’s probably the first and the last time I will do 100 points so of course it’s pretty cool, but it’s something I will think about more after the season.
“For now we have a lot of games left and we need some Ws ahead of the play-offs.”
Nell added: “It was nice to get it done and it was nice that Jonas made the pass for me.
“I really enjoy playing with Jonas, I wouldn’t pick anyone else in the league to play with.
“I’ll probably never get 100 points again in my life, and it’s something I will look at in time, but it’s gone for now and we’ve just got to get ready for the play-offs.”
Finnish forward Henri Sandvik came off with a hand injury after being struck by the puck in the first period against Telford and it took the game nearly half an hour to get going.
Hoog put Cats in front at 27.58 before Jaroslav Kruzik equalised on the powerplay (38.45) and Tomas Karpov put the Shropshire side ahead (39.50).
An all-action four minutes saw Matias Perkkio level (42.36) before Hoog’s assist for Ollie Betteridge’s goal moved him onto the century mark (43.35).
Nell then totalled 100 points thanks to his 47th goal of the campaign (46.23) and Perkkio later took the lead out to 4-2 on the powerplay (52.55).
Telford staged a late rally with Scott McKenzie netting at 54.55 before James Preece scored with just a second left on the clock, but it was not enough for the Tigers.
