TOMMY Miller has suggested a “new voice” is needed in the Swindon Town camp to keep their League One promotion push on track.

The joint caretaker player manager was speaking after his side’s 1-0 home defeat to lowly Bury last night, during which Swindon put in perhaps their worst league display of the campaign to slip to fourth in the table.

Miller and Darren Ward are due to sit down with Town’s new chairman, Jed McCrory, today to discuss the direction the club need to take with regards to management in the immediate future, and he has hinted that he thinks a new face is the best way forward to everyone involved.

“I think we’ve got to look at everything – how the lads have responded – and I think on tonight’s display you can see that it wasn’t good enough,” he said. “Something needs to be done, me and Darren will have a chat.

“We’re helping the club out at the minute, we’re still players so we need to look at things and I’m sure we’ll be sat down in the next 24 hours.

“I think initially they were right behind you. There’s no doubting the effort just the quality and final ball tonight weren’t there. Maybe it needs a different voice, someone from the outside coming in to get a hold of the lads.

“It’s entirely up to the new owners and how they see it but I think possibly it does need a new voice, someone different to tell them. With myself and Darren it is quite hard both being players to instruct things on the pitch at the same time.

“I’m sure something will happen tomorrow and then we will take it from there.”

The new board need to decide whether or not to appoint a new boss, bring in coaches to support the pair or allow the players to remain in charge until the end of the season.

The Advertiser understands Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink, Terry Butcher, Phil Brown, Andy Thorn, Gus MacPherson, Ian Dowie and Peter Taylor are interested in the permanent manager’s job at the County Ground, while Paul Tisdale and Steve Coppell have been linked with the Robins.
