SWINDON Supermarine strengthened their hold on a Southern League play-off position with a 2-1 home win over Abingdon last night.
Ben Whitehead opened the scoring after just five minutes when he fired home from the edge of a crowded penalty area.
After an all-action start, the rest of the first half deteriorated into a scrappy affair. But the hosts were stirred from their slumber when Abingdon equalised six minutes into the second period.
Marine duly responded and Harry Etheridge’s solo effort just shy of the hour mark sealed victory.
Highworth Town went out of the Hellenic League Floodlit Cup 5-3 on penalties after dramatic 2-2 draw with Cheltenham Saracens.
TJ Bohane’s penalty broke the deadlock in the second half but Saracens immediately equalised.
Cheltenham then went ahead in extra time before Bohane’s header forced penalties.
